Camber Kit or Kumho Tires - $ Wise Value
Hello everybody, lost my last login, have been here a couple of years though.
I have a 98 E320. 20K miles agao, I purchased 18" AMG Monoblocks 8.5, 9.5 stags. Kumho Ecsta Supra tires on the rims, rear was 225/40/18.
fast forward 20K miles and the inside rear tires are completely worn. A quick search revealed that is about the right wear on rears. These tires have always been noisy and you can see some negative camber with the plain eye on the rears.
I have purchased the more appropriate 275/35/18 rears, Kumho ASX (which hopefully are quieter).
Soooo... understanding the Kumho's cost $175 each and are good for about 20K.....as opposed to a more premium tire at about $300 each...
Does it make sense to try and correct the negative camber at $350-$500?
Or continue with the $175 Kumho's?
Seems like the benefits of additional tread life by correcting the camber might not make sense, dollar or time wise.
Assuming a 120K base of miles, non-camber corrected Kumho's (6 sets) add up to $2100.
Corrected camber Kumhos, assuming they add another 10K miles of use, add up to $1400 (4 sets), plus low end of $350 for the camber kit, total $1750.
A $350 savings, assuming the camber correction yields another 10K miles, and the camber correction costs do not exceed $350.
Worth it, or leave it?
thanks

'04 Silverado Z71 - sold all my Benzes and need another!
Fix it!!! I don't remember correctly, I think the guys name is Speedybenz in here. Look him up and ask him if he still makes the adjustable camber arms. They are incredible and I bought and installed them myself on my last W210 before I sold it. I have pics. and instructions on the installation but I have to look for them. The camber arms weren't that expensive and make a significant difference that I would use them again and again as long as Speedy or anyone still makes them.

front alignment kit?
Hey Jimmy:
Did you use an alignment kit up front. I have serious negative camber on my E Class since I used the eibach pro kit. Still looking for a kit for the front.
Kuhmo are great tires I have 265 35 18 on the back.
Thanks

Nope, actually my camber wasn't off by that much and my alignment guy took care of adjusting the front just right without a kit. The rear though is a must and make a HUGE difference...
