w210 fog ideas...make any sense?

ok, here i go...my e class is stock '02 in 040 blk. i had previous thought cross my mind to maybe swap front skirt to AMG but maybe too much cost, effort, and risk of poor install or paint match.
but i just think stock front end of non-sport w210 not unattractive , but almost a bit 'common'.

fwiw, i always admired the small round fogs seen on amg mb's and some other cars (newer bmws and audis)...so my question here is , has anyone modified these stock fogs, say, disconnected existing , blacked out stock lens and then installed maybe small piaa's or hellas? maybe can be located in recess area just inside of stock lenses? is this do-able? i have just about zero tech skills here , so be gentle with feedback , please.

thanks , j.

I was thinking much the same thing as jago1244 (as far as replacing the stock bumper) with a more attractive version, either AMG type or from the Sport Package. I have the same concerns about matching paint, etc.

I see two benefits for me doing this: get rid of the lame fog lights, and leave me with a clean new bumper. After 35,000 miles on my 2001 E430 4MATIC, it almost seems like I do all of my driving behind gravel trucks! The front bumper is peppered with chip marks....

I've been thinking the same thing for my '99. I'm tired of the black rubber underneath the bumpers and side skirts, and have been thinking for some time about doing the carlsson body kit. I like the way the fogs/front look with this kit. I've heard as long as the body shop uses mb paint, matching isn't a problem. Installation can be expensive though, Autoclass told me to paint and install front/rear bumpers and side skirts would be around $1300. Damn it looks smooth though :-)

easy, affordable '00 and up 210 ft. bumper mod
some may laugh...but on my 00 e430 I removed the 3 plastic 'grilles' on the lower bumper area, mb still uses these on 211 and look cheap. The left grille is also the temp sensor holder. Being on a budget...I bought some alum. home gutter guard material from home depot and fabricated new grills simply by laying the new mesh around the stock plastic....then removing the plastic and continuing to form and cut, then trimmed edges w/ felt tape (to protect paint), and painted the mesh gloss black. They look good and the grille pattern is similar to what they use on a amg bumper. Makes u wonder...
Havent figured out what to do w/ the fogs but the ft. end looks alot cleaner now.

If you got the sports package, these won't work. The foglights you have on your sport/amg bumper are already round right? Why do you want to change them then

Those are some pricey foglamps. I have an non-sport '02 e320 and wanted something different for my front bumper's appearance. I considered the amg kit however, since my car is obsidian black, it didn't make much sense because the kit wouldn't be as visible. I ended up clearing out the plastic vents and this alone gave my ride a different look. Looks a lot more sportier!

the sport bumpers that i got didn't come with the fog lights assembly. yes they are round. i checked out the price for the stock round fog lights assembly from the dealer and it was sooooo expensive that's why i'm looking for after market. if you don't mind and if you have more info please send me an email. i don't want to take more space here. b_yen2002@yahoo.com. thanks.

Don't go for these, they're the crapiest POS aftermarket stuff I've seen. Seller is misleading. They're not fog light, they just the gut (inside part) of the foglight. Basically you buy them, open up your fog light, throw away the reflector, the put these in. Light is all over the place, and the craftmanship and fitment is probably 2/10. At best, they're as 1/3 as good as the "LED tailight" in term of quality (and at least the tailight is the whole unit). And we all know those Eagle tail lights are nothing to write home about.

If you never use foglight, but just go for the look, then they might worth consideration. But if you ever have to use foglight, you'll probably doing better just put in a pair of 99 cents flashlight.

00 210 ft. bumper
Here we go...gutter guard material from home depot---5 bucks or so worth. Painted black to begin...but found rock chip and flaking maintenence too high...so I blasted 'em and cleared to 2 outer ones.

Can you elaborate on how you did that? For the non-technical person, please?

Thanks,

Ok, I removed the angle adjustment screws to gain access to the guts of the fog lamp if you will... I broke off the tab for the ground lead to the H1 bulb - I then with a dremel rounded out the opening in the middle of the lamp, various cutting and trimming with a Dremel - then I installed an 1156/7 bulb base purchased from an auto parts store - trimmed it and fitted it in the freshly rounded hole of the reflector housing for the foglamp - when everything fits smooth, an appication of JB Weld in all the ctc areas between the bulb base and reflector did the trick - let dry and complete final wiring and re-installation

I have the DIY bug, but that sounds a bit too invasive for me :-(

I would love to put on a set of Silver Stars 1156/57. I have Titanium bulbs for my turn signals, but I like the blueish tint from the SS bulbs, the ones I have on my Avalanche.

If I could just muster the courage to do your mod...

You should see it in your rearview :p

I just put it up to show the amber SS bulbs. I'll put the 430 back shortly.
