Headlight mod: Clk members looking for help from E Class members.
We are looking to mod some E-Class (W210) black projectors to fit a CLK (W208) and are asking for some help fron the W210 forum members.
Here is a link to the W208 forum:

It seems that the W210 E Class has a break in the model years regarding the replacement headlamps:

and

Does anyone know why that is ?
Are they bigger, smaller, different angles, what ?
Also, if you have a W210 from either of those two groups, could you please provide some of the following info., and let us know your model year.
These questions apply to the passenger lights.
1. Use a flexible tape and measure the lense diameter at the vertical height
2. and at the horizontal width as accuratley as possible.
3. Same for the opening, measure the opening from the metal hood edge to the plastic bumper edge for height,
4. and for width.
5. Can you take close photos of the lights directly from the front with the hood closed,
6. and directly from the front with the hood opened,
7. and a couple of shots of the cavity behind the lights.
8. Lastly, if anyone has an otherwise unusable burned out or broken or damaged W210 light, left or right, that I can use for this experimental mod, then I would gladly pay shipping for it if you would contribute it to the cause.
Thanks

So, do you think the 00 E-class is the best bet to pair up with the 00 CLK,
asumming that thes two models made the same change, at the same time ?
best way to find out is to extract ur headlights
First option is to determine if I can mod the light only, only the light, not the sheet metal, ie. hood fenders, etc. Just the light, ie. plastic housing, fittings, etc.--just the light, ie. cut and reshape the plastic light to fit the CLK.
Second option, is some slight modification of the underhood fitment for the light. Maybe involving some slight metal work that would not in the least alter the exterior sheet metal or paint, and retain the ability to remount the stock CLK light, ie. spot weld an extra mounting tab or two on some of the crossmembers under the hood; form a sheet metal housing and either spot it in, or screw it in. Idea is to be able to easily bring any tin mod right back to stock.
If I can figure it out, tampering only with the light, then it's a major breakthrough in the world of CLK owners screwing around with their cars. Maybe it derives from E-Class envy, for all the great afordable aftermarket parts available for it, and the absence of such stuff available for the CLK, particularly in lighting.
Any info contributions are greatly appreciated.
I have a friend that is the alignment man at a local MB dealership, who is looking around for a junked W210 light. One of those in my hands would be a big first step and a big help.
Thanks
