I am trying an install myself. Eventually, did you have to reprogram the D2B?

My changer works fine. I did not have to re-program. I installed this in my 2000 E430. I read somewhere else that if you installed this in a C class, you'd have to re-program. I don't know if that's true though.
By the way, if anyone wants to buy additional CD cartridges, Circuit City sells them at $29.95/pair. These are made by Alpine (Item# KAE-216C). They are identical to the OEM cartridge except they are transparent and the trays can come out all the way. They work great in the MBZ changer.

Thanks for the reply. I think I am going to install and if it needs a reprogram, do it later.
Also, I see lots of cd cartridges on Ebay for app $10~$15.
I am looking for a good deal the changer bracket and have been browsing ebay more religiously lately.

Looking at your second image that you posted, is the power and fiber optic cables under the metal lip that the CD player is mounted to or is it further to the left? Not sure how far over to look... did you have to cut or tear any of the lining to get to the cables?

The photo shows the cables coming out from underneath the molded liner to the left of that "metal lip" as you called it. Just pull back the liner at that corner carefully and you'll see the cables.

Thanks for your help; found the wiring that shows in your image you posted. In fact, found a lot of wires; any idea what the co-ax looking cable is for? Just wondering...
Am going to order CD changer from Performance Products; bracket is $85, changer is $419, less a 10% discount for the changer. Will post the end results; sure hope it goes smooth...

Hi Alan/Richard,
I went in and pulled out the fiberoptics cable and the power cable also. It took some work as I had to cut a tie wrap cable... Saw a posting that mentioned one has to pop the top fasteners and the cargo net hook. I had to remove all three.
Saw the coax and what appears to serial port cables. Definitely curious...
The power/ground cable, if it is right, has three positions. Can someone on the forum verify?
Also, I am thinking of building a bracket since Alan's photo shows the CD player case above the trunk floor. Has that been a problem for luggage? I has hoping to build a bracket to mount it in the cleft beneath the luggage floor level. Any thoughts??

In the first photo I had temporarily removed the changer and placed it on the trunk floor, out of the way of my camera, so I could take a shot at the cables. The second photo shows the changer installed in the cavity on the left side, flush with the trunk floor. Why would there be a problem for luggage?

Thanks for the info. When I saw the second photograph, I saw the mounting bracket at the level of the trunk floor (represented by the metallic bar with mounting holes). The entire cover and part of the changer appeared to be above the metallic bar, which at least in my car is the trunk floor minus the spare wheel cover.

CD Changer installation
Got my cd changer from performanceproducts.com ($496.00 for changer, bracket and shipping; comes with one cd magazine).
Came with no installation instructions and I got in too big a hurry. I was sliding the changer too far up into the bracket and then the holes weren't lining up so I was convinced that I had the wrong bracket. Duh!
Once I slowed down and took a good look it was a very easy and straight-forward installation. Looks and sounds great! Dealer had quoted me $1200 for changer and installation, saying it took two hours ($180) for labor. After you have done one it's about a 10 minute installation! Gee, no labor profit there!

Glad to hear your CD changer installation was a success! No need to pay the dealers your hard earned $$ for an easy 10-15 minute job.
www.edmunds.com now lists the changer as a $400 (retail)factory installed option for the new MBZ models. Just out of curiosity, I called an MBZ dealer's parts dept. this morning to check their prices. They still wanted $699 for the changer and $109 for the mounting bracket! Plus another $180 for labor? If that's not rip off, I don't know what is. I feel that MBZ should reimburse anybody who paid more than $400 for the changer.
Honda (and some other manufactures too) includes a CD changer as standard equipment in their sub $25K Accord EX. Unfortunately MBZ does not see fit to do the same.

I got a quote for new 17" AMG wheels and tires for my E320 from my local M-B dealer; approximately $3440 installed. Same wheels and tires from TireRack are approximately $1900, mounted, balanced and with shipping. Add a few dollars to have them mounted on the car, of course... seems to be a rather large mark-up from the Parts Department.
I don't mind paying a little more for personal service but it sure seems like the dealers really take advantage... I follow a few Harley-Davidson forums and the dealers are frequently referred to as 'stealers'... any one at M-B listening?
