W210 mileometer display suddenly gone dim
Could anyone help with a problem please......
I have a 1998 w210 E280.
The central section of the single temperature / mileometer / odometer / time display, i.e. the mileometer / odometer section, has suddenly become dim, as if in shadow, although the numbers are still readable. All 4 readouts are usually bright yellow digits but the centre section is now less than half as bright as the temperature (on the left) and time (on the right). I don't think it's to do with the dash brightness adjuster since pushing the + or - buttons causes the whole display to get brighter / dimmer but the mileometer section still remains much lower brightness relative to the rest of the display.
Is this a dash bulb problem? If so seems strange that left and right edges are bright - would have thought there was only one bulb that lit up the whole of this display?
If it is a bulb problem is it an easy DIY fix? Does the whole cluster have to come out to get to the bulb or is there an easier way? Any help / suggestions would be gratefully received.
Many thanks.

You will need to replace the light bulb that is behind the display. Just have to pull the cluster out of the dash and pop a new bulb one in the back.
