W211 E500 or W210 E55
Which one? Gonnna sell my W210 E320 that does nothing and pick up another E class. I always wanted an E55 but for the same price I can get a new body E500, i'm having trouble on deciding, i love the E55 but it is old body style, then there is a new body style E500 that is almost just as fast....
Pros and Cons?? Please help me out here.....

that is what i was kind of thinking. because i would have to get a 03 e500, first year and i dont know if i trust the car. I know how reliable the W210 is since i owned one and NEVER had 1 single problem with it...... I was thinking maybe an 01 or 02 540i again, but man, i love benzs

glad to hear that, making it easier for me to go with the E55 then. A lot of people keep telling me to not buy pretty much "the same car" and update it. But i love the body style and feel is less work thatn getting a W211. I alerady have W210 shocks, springs, Bi-Xenons, & C55 brakes ready to swap right over to the E55.......

I vote for the E55. Aside from the extra 50 hp, you get the benefit of a mature model with most of the kinks worked out. I also happen to think a modded 55 is much more distinctive looking.

comes down to if you want a amg........amg is just another thing compared to a 500 or whatever.......i still love the w210 body lines/style so it comes down to what you want or if you care what people say......most people in LA would trade a w210 in for a 211 just cause the cars old but i don;t see it that way

between and M5 and an AMG? not real different. My family owns a 00 M5 with about 60k miles. Aside from MAF replacements, and some VANOS pumps (both replaced under CPO warranty), the car has been perfect.
Clutches are a weak point, but aside from that, these cars seem to be very robust.

If the only choice is a later (as in post-facelift 2000-2002) W210 E55 and a 2003 E500, I vote for the E55. If possible, I'd buy a 2002 but that's just a gut feeling that those will be the least troublesome.
Like some others pointed out, your choice is between a maturely engineered car vs. a first model year. Unfortunately in this respect, Mercedes suffers from the same pitfalls as the other manufacturers.

I use to have a 540i, i know all the common problems with E39's. M5's are great cars but they do tend of have more problems than a W210. E39 have radiator problems, bushing problems, like to leak, electronic alarm system loves to go off all the time by itself and i dont want a car that will need a new clutch after 30k.

Go with the W210 E55. Couple years from now, a W211 is just a used car (just as now), the E55 would still be known as one of those Mercedes hand-built performance sedan. Not to mention, if you buy the 2003 W211 (E320 or E500), may as well get an apartment next to Mercedes dealer, so you can conveniently drop it by for repair/service on weekly basic
Btw, your bi-xenon headlight will not work with the 2000-on E class, so you might want to sell it separately, or as part of your current E.

Please tell me thre is a way to put the bi-xenons on!!! I cant drive with any other xenons! They are so bright and light EVERYTHING up, c'mon zam tell me there is a fix!!! ( i sound like a drug addict, haha)

The buttons feel just fine.
Not to mention, doesn't everybody rave about the quality of 80s mbs?
however, how you think these are even remotely similar, I don't know:

Do you own an E55? How do you know about the problems?
Usually its easy to talk to people who don't nug hug a particular brand, unless you are in fact the nuthugger.
if you think mercedes have less problems than bmws, you are certifiable.

hmm, strange how bmw has a fantastic warranty, and they just wouldn't cover the issues. Maybe it had to do with the clutch, and those owners didn't know how to drive with a manual transmission. Our m5 has over 60k miles on the original clutch, and it still grabs just fine.
none of ur business wether I own an E55 or not
and so are the HAPPY W210 owners around here
