![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Is this how your E works: (2002 E320 with Voice Activation and Motorola StarTac phone):
-------------------------------------------------------------
The dashboard display has an AUDIO and TELEPHONE menu choice.
With the dashboard saying "TELEPHONE", the dashboard display indicates the status of the telephone: the 'off-hook' steering wheel button will display the last phone calls; The voice system will enter the numbers that you say to it. The up/down arrow keys will also change the dashboard display to scroll through your telephone book. There is no change on the radio's display window. (It displays the radio station, and the muted).
With the dashboard saying "AUDIO" and the sub-menu displays PHONE: The radio display will now display your telephone book (and you can scroll through it with the up and down arrow keys), and if you use the voice system, it will display the numbers in the radio-display. But the dashboard display does not change.
Do you guys and gals operate the phone the same way? It seems to me that the radio/phone are not integrating as well as it should be. Regardless of which menu you choose, all displays should be displaying the same thing.
If you initiate a "Dial Number" command with the voice-control, how should the displays (Radio/dashboard) change?
Thanks,
Ed

Good question about the alert for voice mail message...I've missed several already 'cause the phone kept quiet.
I was spoiled with the way my 2001 X5 behaved in this same situation: A little envelope icon came up on the dash display to indicate there was a message waiting. Hope someone at MB HQ is working on this!!

I have the Timeport too (which is what the BMW had also). It would be interesting to know if the COMAND system has an icon or some other notification built into it for the message feature....

The Voice Mail Indicator +
With ATT-WS: You need to have VM notification on. The radio/cd player is supposed to blank out every few minutes to indicate that you have a message. Well, I will post on Wednesday afternoon, if they fixed that.
It was recommended to me to use just the AUDIO-Phone menu for telephone operations and use the Phone menu option as a backup.
I will ask about the beep feature on Wednesday.

How do you get to this menu??? I can't find it. I do have the message notification turned on on the phone and it (handset) will beep if there's a message but only when the phone is disconnected from the car. After I plug it back into the car neither the phone nor the audio system beep or make any notification of a voicemail.
BTW, I am using Verizon (if that makes a difference).

My experience (Verizon, Timeport & V60c):
Voice mail never triggers an icon; text messages always do.
If I have an audible signal for voice mail set on the phone, audio in the car mutes periodically (~once every 60 seconds?). Took me a while to figure this out when I first got the car; thought I had some random defect in the audio system......
