1997 E320 Flip Key Remote Question

Has anyone had any trouble with the older style flip out key remote?

My remote doesn't always unlock the car by using the IR button. Sometimes I have to press it 5 times before it unlocks the car. I think maybe it's because the key fob might be coming apart and causing the batteries to come apart and maybe resetting the codes? Maybe I just need to buy new remotes...

I am considering installing a key lock in my driver's side instead of the IR senser with the Red/Green lights. It is broken anyway from stupid valet drivers trying to shove my key in it. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I want to be educated before I go to my mechanic/dealership

thanks!

Jason

Are you pointing it at the rear view mirror when you push the button. Try a new battery in the remote. A new remote will cost you $150 from the dealership. It has to be programmed for your car.

Sometimes, usually during the day, I will be standing infront of the driver's side door pointing the remote at the rear view mirror and it will open after 3-5 pushes of the button on the remote. Sometimes, it doesn't work at all and I have to go to the trunk and unlock the car. The same situation goes for the trunk receiver. I don't think the batteries are very old but I will try replacing them tomorrow.

It's strange but I think I have a higher success rate with the remote at night. Maybe the IR signal, as stated above, is weak and the sun makes things worse. If i hold the button down on the remote it does blink once I believe. Doesn't that mean the battery is fine? I'll change the batteries anyway and post what I find.
