Squeeky Door Hinges

I have a '96 W210 E300D with 165k miles on it. All four of the door hinges squeek. Is there an easy fix or do I need to replace the hinges themselves? I suspect this is normal with the age and wear of the car. I am the fifth owner.

Thanks!

What I use is white lithium grease in a spray can.
Works for me.

If you take your car in every 30k miles for service, as the manuf. recommends then they will lube the doors for you. If you have been to the service and there is still a squeak then there might be another problem. If you dont service your car, and it squeaks, then use lithium grease or some wd40.

If it is a clunk type of noise, then it is the door check. It is that thin piece of metal that goes all the way into the door. It is between the top and bottom hinges.

You'll see there are very thin grooves on that check (both top and bottom). Try to lubricate these grooves to see if the noise goes away. Otherwise you may need new checks. They are inexpensive but the door panel has to come off.

Mine is a clunk

Yep, mine does catch and clunk...along with the squeek when I close my doors. I guess it is time to change the checks out.

Thanks!

Did you do it?

I've tried lubricating and mine aren't getting any better. I'm looking for advice/input on how to replace the door checks. Did you do it? If so, how difficult was it and do you have any helpful tips?

my door check bolts were scary loose. No noise, but something you want to look out for (im referring to the ones inside the door panel.)

Thanks for the direction on this one guys (or gals). My front doors are doing the "clunk and squeek" @ 118K miles...and neither type of lube has solved the problem. Now I know what to chase!
