Fender tire gap

hello all, i am kind of new member, i have E430 2002 with stock 17 inch wheel , i want to put the AMG monoblock 18 inch (they are 18x8 front and 18x9 rear) gonna go with 235x40x18 29 mm offfset, and 265x35x18 35 mm offset rear, my concern about the gap between the fender and the tire, ll it be bigger and look bad if i dont drop the car or it ll be the same as is now ( 235x45x17 41 mm offset all 4 tires), just dont want it to look like a jeep.

The gap will be exactly the same with the 18 inch setup.

But your eyes will play tricks on you... It will look like a Jeep.

The visually ideal gap is about half the height of the tire sidewall. Bigger wheels mean smaller sidewalls. Smaller sidewalls need smaller gaps to look right.

If you go with 18s, I predict you'll end up dropping the car within 6 months.

P.S. You'll probably need to get your fender rolled with 18x8 ET29 to avoid rubbing issues, especially if you lower the car. Also, 2mm might not make much difference, but I think the proper front offset for the E55 monoblocks is 18x8 ET31.

Don't go trying to make the diamater of the wheel bigger. That will make your speedometer off and it will cause rubbing problems. Just get the correct wheels that you know will fit okay without rubbing and then lower the vehicle.

Hey Mach^2,

I had a 1998 E430 sport package and I went with the AMG Monoblock @ with 18's on. I thought the gap would drive me nuts so I lowered the car a little using Eibach Springs...It looked really good, and the drive did not suffer like I thought it would. I will send pix...

I have the staggered authentic 18 AMG Monoblock Aero II's, and on the rears, went from an improper 225/40, to the proper 275/35. On another thread, somebody said it would like like a "4X4", which I found amusing since switching to the correct size actually filled the gap nicely, and I lost all interest in lowering the car. Gotta luv the big fatties!
