To tint or not to tint
As I mentioned in the past, NJ state law does not allow tinting of the front side windows, which is fine for a limo, but seems a waste for the driver of a normal car.
However, I spotted an E the other day that did have just the rears tinted, and maybe I'm not so against it now. Thinking of doing it. Thoughts?

MB's will scratch the tint due to the tight window seals. Be prepared to live with that. Mine are scratched, but not to bad. I love the factory blue tint that MB puts in out windows, however its no match for the Fl sun.

Good point, but since it would only cover the rears, I could turn on the child lock so nobody can open those windows.

how strict are the police in NJ? I say just put the tint on all the windows. I'm in RI and they have the tint laws that say no aftermarket tint on any windows and I still tint mine as well as many other people around and we don't get bothered too much. I think the rear windows is a wast in my opinion.

the installer should have put in felt strips to prevent scratching. i've had all my windows tinted (exc windshield) for over a year with no scratching or problems.
i don't know about nj, but in ny the cops usually won't just pull you over for tints, but they will give you a tint ticket if they pulled you over for something else. here in nassau county on long island, it's only a $35 equipment violation.

It won't scratch the tint if you bring it to a good tint shop. Good tint shops change the rubber piece to felt or something like that. I have had mine tinted for over 6 months, not one scratch. In california, you are not able to tint the front windows, but everyone does it anyways.

things with and without wheels
In NJ you will get a hard time for tint at the Inspection station, unless you pay for the inspection at a private facility.
While we are on the subject can anyone recommend a good tint shop in the Union County area?
my car is due for an inspection this month and as soon as the new sticker is put on I'd like to get it tinted for the summer.

Robert, how much is private inspection these days?
Cops around here are complete and total a$$holes. When I first got this car, I took my old plates from a white C I traded in and put them on the white E, figuring the dealer paperwork would be wrapped up a day or two. Apparently it took a bit longer, as I got pulled over no less than 3 times in one week for "suspicion of stolen car" by the same townies. Same ones that set up roadblocks on a major highway during morning rush hour to check inspection stickers.

dude I fell ur pain, our cops are bigger a$$holes
anyways I got my car tinted 25% all around and I still get away with it for some ironic reason I get away with it. But some people tell me its maybe due to the fact that I drive an E-Class benz with 5 numbers (the lower or nicer your number the more you get away with stuff)

Considering, I'm in Phoenix, Arizona - most vehicles are tinted - I'd go 20% throughout - I see most people do 35% on the sides and double-limo on the back - the two-tone tint doesn't look good! Good luck!

If you don't mind the ride up to North Jersey, Lee with Applied Film Technology does great work. He works of referrals only, so if you want his info you can email me at Adoola@DelsTeam.com
I chickened out myself with the front window tinting, but am thinking of going back and getting a light tint applied for the sake of keeping the car cool.
