w210 E300 '97 Suspension Upgrade - Update!
Finished installing the E55 spring w/ #1 pads up front. Haven't gotten to the rear yet, but that's next! Shocks are Eibach Pro-Kit shocks. The shocks and springs are used, previously installed on an E420 so they are nicely broken in.

nice
are you just taking a break?
are you going to finish the rear too today? when i did mine it took me no more than 1 1/2 (rear) for both side. for me the rear is easier to do. have fun

interesting. with my 99 E320, the front was easier as I only had to compress
the spring, drop a sway bar fitting, and pull lower shock mount. with the rear
i had to put a floor jack below the LCA and lower that. aligning the LCA to
the bolt holes during assembly was tedious. since I've been experimenting
different springs and shocks i've un/installed about a dozen springs now so
the routine is much less traumatic vs the 1st attempt. i'm sooo thankful I've
not had to do this with the 4matic.

The V8 springs are the best match for the heavy diesel engine. There have been some others that have purchased H&R kits a few years ago for their E300's and the front end was too low. After further research it was determined that the front spring included in the kit was also the same as for the I-6 and V-6 models. The remedy was to install the springs for the V8 powered cars.

Did it myself. Took my time and handled some rust issues that are prevalent with the w210 chassis. The passenger side was more affected by the rust but still everything was solid. I cleaned the rust with a wire wheel, wiped the area with isoprophyl alcohol and treated the rusted surface with Eastwood's Rust converter then coated with their Rust Encapsulator. Since I live in the south, I shouldn't have any rust(ing) issues for a while to worry about.
In between I went on vacation. The passenger side was a pain to take apart. I also replaced the lower controls arms that had new bushings installed. So far it was a decent experience. Also replaced the lower control arm bolts with the replacement eccentric bolt kit.
Wouldn't think twice about doing it again, fairly straight forward, even when some issues arise.
So close, yet so far. Before the front end was so high as the rear looked good. Now it looks raked.

Oh, I see, thanks for the clarification Mich...didn't know that..especially with reference to the diesels
I need to check but I think there is a different part number for AMG springs for Diesels..if you're interested.

Didn't know there is one. I looked on the WIS and only saw the one part number for the springs. There was however a cool checklist that would help determine the proper spring pad for the particular model w210 and it's installed options.

Just checked, it appears they're selling springs and shocks as a set only (at least on my list):
B66030000: E220D, E200, E230, E240
B66030001: E 200 CDI, E 220 CDI, E 290 TD, E 300 D
B66030002: E 270 CDI, E 320 CDI, E 300 TD, E 280 - E 420 (-08/97), E 280 - E 430 ( V-6 ), E 50 AMG
Haha, the rims are on hold until I find a generous buyer for the old ones...and I ain't got a E280 btw

Yes, I had to put a jack too below the LCA and for some reason I had no problem
aligning the 3 bolts. I had to do it one a time though. Oh, and I had to play the heights of the jack to get the bolts aligned.
I did the front twice and the rear 3 times due to getting the right spring pads combination.

I attached a picture and point out where I had a hard time doing the front.

'04 Silverado Z71 - sold all my Benzes and need another!
I am temporarily sitting on the same suspension on my 55; stock AMG shocks and springs and on #1 pads (#3's before). It's still a bit high IMO but it looks better than stock for now...
Wow, that's a lot of work to remove the front springs. Luckily and with some guidance from raymond, I was able to remove the front springs (both sides) with a spring compressor and only removing the lower shock bolt. Once the spring was compressed and the shock bolt was removed, out popped the spring. For the rears, no spring compressor just the use of the jack and the removal of 1 bolt, check it out:

Depending on how crazy you are (like me) about getting the ride height perfect for you, a spring compressor is a good investment. I bought mine from ebay for $180 bucks and it was well worth it. Now I can play with my suspension all I want and won't have to pay someone everytime.
