I too, used an 18 V cordless to drill out the original rivets. No big deal if you take a minute to realize that you need to drill out the center portion of the rivet without letting the whole thing rotate at the same speed as the drill bit.
if it spins, you are not drilling out anything, you are just spinning the rivet.
You can tell if it is spinning by making a mark on the outer lip of the rivet with a sharpie. I didn't bother, but others may find it helpful.
