e-class rear lamp upgrade

Hi - first post in this forum but a regular 'visitor' as you have some awesome cars and pictures of them !!

I have a w210 e55 sedan early 99 , wanting to fit the post 1999 rear lamps.

How much work is involved in the trunk pieces as I have read in a few places that they need grinding off to fit flush as the facelift boot has a different hole cutout ?

I any one has done this and pics / how to would be great...

I have done the outer ones without any issues...

and info will be appreciated

they fit perfectly, the side peices are held in by 4 or 5 screws that are kinda tricky to get out. the inner peices need removal of the trunk insulator, very simple and its held in by 3 screws.

I didn't realize the outer ones were different too (doh). I'll have to be more observant the next time I see one of those.

The outer ones were easy - managed to do these in 10 -15 mins .

The inner ones are a real pain - the newer lights seem to have a larger rear housing compared with the old ones and this does not line up with the cutout in the trunk.

There is no inslulator in the trunk.??

The original equipment lights in the middle will need modification as said - most replicas don't need to be modified. You will need to dremel the areas that stick out in the back thinner. Sorry I don't have the pics anymore but do a search on either me or jimmydagreek - we've posted them once, hopefully they're still hosted here.

You shouldn't need to take off trunk's inner lining if you have a screwdriver attachment from a socket/rachet set as there are holes there for you to access the nuts holding the inner lights and the light's sockets.

Thanks guys for all your prompt replies - there was enough info on the threads pointed out for me to sort the lamps out.

You would not believe this but I used a small angle grinder with a sanding sheet to smooth off the offending inner edges - car is looking sweet now !!

Some more mods planned ...

Smoked side repeaters
Philips silver vision front repeaters
Philips 'white' light sidelight bulbs to match xenons
Diamond cut the dish on the AMG's
Upgrade pedals to aluminum evo type
connect mp3 to comand APS

also try to polish tailpipes through the baked on soot/exhaust fume !!
clay bar
meguires 3 step polish
meguirs nxt wax
