smoke

Help ..Merc E200 W210 ..car starts runs ruff like 3 cylinder for about 10 seconds then car idles smooth .when i drive the car sends smoke out the exhaust ..grey ish in colour when the car has rund for a couple of miles the smoke stops car runs very well no more smoke ...any one have any idea`s ?

similar issue

If your car is a diesel check the rubber hose on the exhaust manifold.
I have an E300 (1996- Diesel) and had the hose left off after service and experienced very similar issues (esp the smoke). Did your CEL come on yet?

Hello folks ..thanks for the reply the car is a 5 speed manual Petrol ..
i think my problem is deeper ...im also loseing a little water as well .The radiator overflow pipe is dribbling water from it ....i think the head gasket is gone .dosent appear to be a bad job ..would you folks use new head bolts when replaceing a cylinder head gasket ....any suggestiond welcome ....thanks

it's not so bad-the job itself

Definitely invest in new bolts, they stretch over time. Before you delve into pulling the head, check a few things. Since you think you have coolant in your engine and you're only getting a puff of smoke and then all clear it might not be the head gasket but the seals. A little oil drips into the pistons at the end of your drive and then you start it up and (has a hard time starting and runs rough - maybe oil in the pistons) then the oil burns off giving the smoke.

Head gasket would have oil mixing with coolant so your expansion tank would look like a mocha frappachino choclate shake or your oil would look fouled in a similar manner, pull the dip stick and take a look. Are you overheating at all? Thats another sign.

Just some thoughts, not an expert but my 190E had a head gasket failure and those were symptoms of mine.
