"W S" toggle switch next to gear shift? What does it do?

I've read the user manual but they do not say what this "W S" toggle switch next to the gear shift does? Anyone???

When W is selected the tranny engages 2nd gear bypassing 1st. Its to aid in traction where ice may be present. Also effect reverse. Its also used by people who don't like the shift shock felt from 1st to 2nd.

No wonder she accelerates so slowly at first!!! I have it on W.
