Headgasket on a diesel
I'm driving an E300 (1996 with 155K miles on the odo) and the mechanic took a look while it was up on the lift and noticed a coolant leak and then said it was the head gasket but I haven't noticed any considerable amount of coolant loss (several months ago I did need to top off my coolant but that was several months ago and I only added ~300 ml - 3/4 a can of beverage for those non-metrics).
So how common is this as an issue? Anyone else ever have theirs done?
Seems to be a leak outwards and not a mixing of coolant and oil (yet).
Car is running fine, not overheating not blowing smoke - not more than a diesel should when gunned!
thanks
-Check out Black Stone Laboratories. They will analyze your used engine oil. An engine oil analysis will tell you many things about the wear in your engine... including if they find coolant. You know your headgasket is on the "outs" if they find coolant.
