E430 Spark plug replacement
There is a diy over on benzworld don't remember how complete it is,remove the engine cover it just pops off straight up,remove air cleaner bonnet, the tube that goes back to the intake, and unhook the maf socket, place some rags over the duovalve area so if you drop a tool it doesnt get lost in that deep recess, start on the air filter side that takes the longest and by the time you remove the parts and do the plugs youll need a rest, and when you do the driver side it will go like a breeze.remove the #27 torx from each coil pack dont unhook any wires, when the torx are out gently move them aside a bit and use the 17mm tool to gently pry the metal boot off the plug,if I had a picture would be easier to explain you just sort of angle it in with the dog leg open end of the tool onto the little collar on the metal boot and pry it off by gently levering it against the valve cover.Remember that the upper coil wire is always the front plug on each cyl. when all the boots are pulled then you can move the coil packs out of the way i.e. the top of the plenum.now it is a simple matter(tight area)to r/r the plugs, dont use anti seize the plugs are coated with a metal release agent.hand tighten by turning the extension until firmly seated and then torque 2/3 turn more or if you have a torque wrench to factory specs(dont recall)so this one you need to look up i think its in your manual,do all the plugs, then one by one starting from the back and working forward replace the boots onto the plugs, note above, why you remembered where they go,make sure you give them a firm push on so they sort of pop onto the plug end, you'll feel it when do it.
replace all the coil pack screws and gently just more than hand tighten them.
replace all the air intake unit,go get a beer ,After you remove all the tools and the cardboard you layed them on,and checked operation by starting the car...take that beer break and move to the other side ,tight space but simple r/r same as the p side.the kroil helps if you start with a cool engine and use a spray tube on the kroil to spray all the metal boots when you have the coil packs pushed aside.makes removel of the metal boots easier. All of these instructions are the same pretty much for the v6 just 2 less cylinders ,use common sense dont force anything,it seems complicated but once you examine the project according to the above instructions you will do fine. Those plugs are about 2.99 each v.s. the oe plugs at the dealer for $12-15 each.all told if you h
