whining noise/transmission slipping!!!!
When I drive my car like an old man all is well until I step on the gas. This is when the noise comes on and then here's the F*^%ed up part, my transmission does not want to switch gears. It usually gets stuck in 1st or 2nd after I leave a stop light. Now if I turn the car off and wait 2mins and then start to drive again, all is well....then it happens again.
I did change my idle pulley, but the problem is still there. The transmission does not go crazy if the whining noise is not there but again after a while the problem occurs. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks...Rock

Check with the trans shop. If it's one (or more) of the four key set that go out, then you can rebuild the trans, price is all over the place, I would try AAMCO. I rebuild the trans last year for $1600 (my friend shop). First key set toasted, but I think my friend just replaced all four.
Now, back to the earlier part, the early 772.6 have weak planetary gear bearing & axle. If this start going, don't bother rebuild the trans, get a manufacture rebuild one, or get a trans from 99 from junk yard. If the planetary gear start going out, you would start hearing a howl as you speed up, and car is lazy to shift. Replacement of trans w/ one that have updated design (pretty much a new trans) would be quite pricey.
If you intend to keep the car, fix the trans early.
