Exclamation New to Forum

Hello Everyone,

I just joined the MBWorld Forum today, having reviewed the many postings - it is indeed a wealth of information and I should have relied on it sooner!

I have owned a used 2000 E320 for about 5-1/2 years and have only put on ~9,500 miles during that time. The car currently has about 23,000 pampered miles.

I have had the usual noted problems with the window regulator, but not knowing about the Forum, I dropped $450 (!!!) at my local dealer last year to replace the right rear window regulator.

I just noticed that now there is also rattling noise coming from the left rear door as if some small mangled pieces may be rolling around at the bottom of the door. Needless to say, I am afraid to open the window on that door! I have read horror stories about this issue on the Forum.

Recently, my A/C fan started acting up - coming on and off intermittently regardless of the fan speed setting, or just completely shutting off.

Also, the outside temperature indicator shows inaccurate (high) reading.

I am going in for my B service next week and have mentioned these issues to the dealer.

Any advice/recommendations that you may be willing to share will be greatly appreciated.

Regards and thanks to all,

Frank

9000 miles in almost 6 yrs. yikes. i always thought too little driving and putting your car on a pedestal does more harm than good in terms of reliability.

ProV1 - I guess you are right, but what can I tell you... I live in Chicago and commute by train so I don't really need to drive the second car. That's why the MB does not get driven that much.

Yes

Don't go to the dealer.....If you cant do the service yourself at least find a good indie shop that is recommended by someone in your area ask here
then also before you do,arm yourself with the facts about what you need,by running the a/c diagnostics on the climate control that will show you what is wrong with the a/c.Don't go into any shop without being armed with the info that allows you not to be the next chump.Mass air sensors are 200 bucks and 10 min work the dealers have been known to charge $880 !!!!!!!!!!! This is just one item to watch out for.Read these forums, ask around about shops,do some of your own maint items, and good luck with your great low mileage machine

23k WOW I have the same model and year as you with 83k.

Sounds like you need a new ambient temp sensor for the outside temp.reading. It cost about $20 from stealership. easy to install.

You need to check if the piece fell out first. Its a black triangular piece that points out of the black mesh housing just to right of the drivers side fog-light (you will see a point sticking out...If its still in place, and hasn't fell out) either way its an easy fix.

You have to lift drivers side of car, or pull car onto a curb (thats what I did)to get access underneath front drivers end. You will see a square door/latch underneath car with a plastic screw that you have to open.....hopefully you have small hands to reach in. You just need to pull the piece out of the mesh housing if it hasn't fell out...If it has just reach inside to find loose wire, and take the bad plug out..by lifting the two small flap that fasten to the sensor...unplug senser.....and the new one, you just snap in. Very easy fix. Let me know if you need any more info.

You were right - the sensor was just dislodged. It now works fine and shows correct temperature. Thanks again for the tip!
