Want to start looking at wheels

I want to get new wheels and tires for my 01 E 320. I dunno where to start or what to look for. I want to get low profile tires but still have the same overall wheel height.

Re: Want to start looking at wheels

Check out Tire Rack (www.tirerack.com) -- they've got a nice selection of wheels, and you can even preview them on your car. The Tire Rack will also help you with tire size, but basically your car originally came with 215/55-16 tires. For 17" rims, you should go up to 235/45-17 or 215/50-17; for 18" rims, it should be 235/40-18. Since it looks like this is your first time upgrading tires/rims, I wouldn't go past 18" at this point.

Good luck!

some guidelines while shopping:

for 18", tire size should be 235/40/18 F and 265/35/18 R or 245/40/18 F and 275/35/18 R

for 19", tire size should be 245/35/19 F and 275/30/19 R.

The maximum width for a front wheel is 9 and the rear is 10 (for no modifications).

Hope this helps.

It also goes back to your reasons for upgrading. Is it for performance, looks, etc? Do you also plan to change the suspension and lower the car? What is your tolerance for increased stiffness vs. ride comfort? Having these questions answered will help you to determine the new wheel size. good luck!

Well, I want to get better looks over stock. I'm not planning to touch the suspension unless I am out of choices. I also would like to get wider tires if I dont need to do any extra work. I am hearing that some of you guys are having problems with rubbing on some E55's. If this will be a problem for me, I'll just keep the same width. I want to get low profile tires, but keep the overall dimension of the tires. I feel like the tires absorb too much of the road and I cant feel it while driving. What is the biggest size I can get without modifications? Also, if I can handle 18's with stock, will it mess up my gauges (the speed and milage)?

Stupid question but gotta ask.

Seeing that there are many differences between the 96-99 and 00-01 E-Classes. Do the wheels sizes listed earlier apply the same to the "older" E-Classes? '97 E300 to be more specific

MBDriver-if you don't touch the suspension, then the tire sizes listed by lee2375 will definitely work and not rub and those sizes will not mess up your spedo b/c the overall dimesions are the same (or very close) to stock. Rubbing only becomes a problem on lowered cars. You do have to get the proper rims with the correct offset though (meaning rims that are applicable to our cars).

However, without lowering, the 'look' may not be there; since the wheel gap (tire to fender) is relatively the same, with lower profile tires, it will stand out more now.

Then again, you mention you can feel the road while driving. With larger rims and lower profile tires, you will definitely feel more of the bumps and ride quality will be compromised. It sounds like that is a concern to you, so like I've said before, you'll have to consider that more before plucking down the money...

michakaveli-1996 to 2002 w210s have the same wheel applications. So, yes, rim and tire sizes are the same across those years.

Nope, the tire sizes is the one thing that should have stayed the same.

Nice choice of cars...check mine out.

I looked at the AMG's but I like the monoblocks in AMG. What has really caught my eye is the Lorinser lm5's. What should I look for to know if a wheel will fit on my car? I have a few friends with nice wheels that arent brand name but I wouldnt mind rolling with?
