check engine electronics due to K&N Air Filter?
Does anyone have experience with check engine electronics light appearing after you put in a K&N air filter?
I have a 97 E420 and I just installed a K&N air filter. when I drive the car next day, my check engine light came on. I searched the forum about this and most said its either gas cap open, bad O2 sensor or bad air mass filter.
I am wondering the reason for my check engine light came on after I installed the K&N air filter is because the air mass filter detected additional air intake due to the K&N air filter and therefore think its abnormal. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution to this? Is there anyone using K&N air filter and is just driving with the check engine light on?
Edward

Please read the Instructions on the Cleaning the K and N Filter
Do Not Over OIL it as it will kick on the check engine lite and ruin the mass air sensor!
If the Check engine lite came on Yes check the gas cap,
If not take the car to the dealer to sort the problem out!
I Would Install the STOCK AIR FILTER If you take it in for warranty repairs so they cant blame it on a OVER OILED K/N Just My.02
And If you tossed the old filter go buy one its a LOT less than paying for a Mass air sensor!
BTW If you live in So cal I Can recommend a friend! That works at a Dealer

As already said, I believe it is just the over oiling that is the culprit in used filters. Had mine maintained by the mechanic and no problems when I had my K&N installed.......no problems after two years either.

On a separate note, does anyone have any experience with aftermarket air boxes such as the RennTech?
