has anyone tried pentosyn oil?

took my benz for an oil change today
told my mechanic to put mobil 0w-40...he said i dont use that crap,
instead i use pentosyn for all high end german cars...i said pentowhat
i've never heard of it...he proceeded to tell me it has better anti wear
and sludge additives and they were the first co. to produce synthetic oils.

I was still not convinced...but when he told me it's made in Germany
and myself worshiping anything thats made there,he convinced me
got 8 quarts and a filter ...they also make it in 5w-40

Pentosyn has been Mercedes Benz OEM for brake fluid for twenty years. and their oil is ok, but check the approved application chart.

Pentosin is a well known lubricant producer in Germany and have been around since 1927:

Nonsense. The Mobil1 0W40 carries the specification required by your car. Now, Pentosin has multiple 5W40 products. Did the one your mechanic use meet MBz 229.xx

If mechanics' technical opinions had any value they'd have a degree in engineering and a different job.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
97 E320

you don't have in a 1997 the fss or extended oil change interval,a filter is 6bucks,5w40 is about $2.50 a quart.Adds up to 26 bucks diy.Why **** money down a drain?on snake oil?I suppose he is one of those trusted mechanics, people speak of(snake oil salesman)I wonder how much of the money goes directly into the guys pocket in commission? As to made in Germany, they are nice cars, built by Turkish labor,in germany. So worship if you will, but worship the right people.I would stick with oem oil and factory recommended intervals. Can you even buy a fleece filter for a 97?That is what is required on the models with the fss system and extended intervals .So if this guy is burning you for over priced synthetic on a car that did not even require it,you are wasting money, time and trust.

Active Body Control. Suspension systems on some SL's, CL's etc. Im sure Pentosin makes several types of oil, but the only Pentosin we have comes in a a blue tin, and is around $40 a quart. Its actually has a blueish tint to the oil.

I knew it was around that much. We use it in some power steering systems, and ALL ABC systems.
