engine cleaning
I would greatly avoid the serpentine belt and try not to spray too much water directly at the coil packs. Aside from that, id say spray some simple green all over the thing, and use a hose to hose it off.
Oh, and don't do it when the engine is HOT.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Get some
gunk foamy engine brite,cool engine,cover end of air intake tube where it comes out by the upper left grill area.Pull off the engine cover,it lifts straight up and pops back on the same way.Foam engine,everything under the hood,let sit.Get a stiff brush,and hit the real greasy areas,don't know how dirty youare talking about but it might take two cans.When happy with how it looks,hose off the area,with a garden hose,at full power on a nozzel.As above no pressure washer is needed.Start her up,run for 10 min,you are done!Then as a tip,since it is clean,before you install the engine cover again,inspect the belts,hoses,fluid levels.
