2000 E320 wagon SRS light, help

hi all,

"our worn pads" light just went on last week, but today i just noticed that the RED "SRS" light has been intermittently turning on and off...not flickering, but rather it'll go on for 1 minute and then stay off for 5 to 10 minutes, etc...

are these two possibly related? isn't SRS the airbags related?

what could this be...i hope it's not expensive.

sounds like it could be a seat belt sensor going bad. try cleaning the the buckle side and see if that helps. some compress air usually works petty good.

My SRS light did the same thing. It was a sensor in the front passenger seat that went bad.

how much is the front seat sensor if that's the problem?
and is that a dealer job, or can indep do that also?
thx for feedback.

does it go on/off when you have a passenger? The seat sensor is a common problem. It's unfurtunate because it's a useless feature that is over-engineered and impossible to by-pass without replacement

thx for reply.

the SRS was flashing but is now pretty much always on, regardless of whether there's a passenger or not.

this is mainly our nanny's driver w/ 2 kids in backseat, but i'm curious if the airbag will still work and it's just the light that's on? or is this a problem that might affect deployment and therefore i should fix asap?

thx.
