Vibration in reverse?

I just started noticing that my 98 E-320 is vibrating quite a bit in reverse while in D(rive) it's very quiet. I suppose reversing is so short I never pay attention to it before.
This morning I was testing in reverse for about 15 seconds, the car is a little more quiet than at first (still vibrating) but immediately I noticed the car was shaking as I pressed the brake pedal.
Any ideas? Is this something I should be concerned about? Anyone with the same symptom?

Thanks in advance.

Most likely Engine Mounts

I had the same symptom before. It all started when I'm on reverse and after few months it does not matter what gear anymore. Lots of vibrations while stop/idling. Replaced both engine mounts. Problem solved.

BTW, Recall on Harmonic Balancer

Have the dealer check if your Harmonic Balancer is good or not. Or give them a call. All they need is your VIN number. Good luck.

Update

I posted this on benzworld.org so I thought I'll have it here too.

I went to my mechanic this morning and had the two engine mounts, transmission mount, oil change, AFT change (drain and drop the pan) and tires rotation serviced. I saw both engine mounts was cracked and about 2/3" - 3/4" shorter than the new one

First, the bad news:
1. The driver side engine mount was so difficult to get out, the bottom bolt (nut) was damage as it was taken out, a different bolt (not exactly the same) was put in hopefully it won't hurt in the long run.
2. About a mile out of the shop, I got a warning "engine oil below min" and the car started smoking. I stopped and turned off engine within 10 seconds and saw engine oil spraying out all over as I opened the hood - the oil was almost empty. I got towed back and it turned out the filter O-ring was not seating properly. The shop apologized but I didn't have a grudge, just want to get it fixed and cleaned. Definitely hope that the engine was not damaged!!!! Comments???

Now, the good news:
1. Out of the oil fiasco, I got a very good engine bay cleaning with about 5 cans of brake cleaners - also, maybe the spilled oil clean the engine a little more??.
2. While driving for about 20 miles to work, I think the vibration in reverse/at stop seems gone. Before the service, I even have a little rattle if driving at 75mph or faster, now all gone. However, I'll confirm that after a few more days and keep my fingers cross.

So I spent:
~ $65.00 - Mercedes ATF fluid (6 liters still have 2 left)
~ 16.00 - ATF filter kit
~ 114.00 - 2 engine mounts
~ 23.00 - Transmission mount
~ 55.00 - Mobil 1 0W40 oil (8 quarts)
~ 250.00 - Labor
~ 25.00 - Tips
~ 2.00 - nut, washers
--------------------
~ $550.00 Total, but I think money well spent

- Nice, quiet ride - PRICELESS (or maybe $50,000 - new car should feel like)

Regards,
JeffreyP
