Rear window privacy shade? Retrofit?
Has anyone installed the rear window privacy shade that didn't have it come from the factory on the car? I'd like to have one installed or do it myself if it's not a huge deal. Anyone who's attempted it please let me know =]

I believe the switch location is just to the right of the side mirror control like the trunk switch is to its left. Would you be willing to replace that wood panel or cut it yourself?

Depends on the cost of the whole install. i'd be willing to replace the wood panel, but wouldn't cut it myself, I'm not quite that handy. I was interested in doing it if the parts/labor cost isn't too prohibitive. I think it would be a 'cool' thing to have.

I've actually considered this mod - it is one option I wish I had ordered when I bought the car. E320, is the wiring under the rear deck for the sunshade assembly and under the wood for the switch? I might go for this even at the price.

side window sunshades
Has anybody installed the side window sunshade accessory to their E class? I had my dealer looking for them, but apparently they can't find the correct part numbers? Thanks!

Yes, I installed the side window blinds on my uncle's 2001 E240 - they were available at the dealer, both windows at $120 installed. They also offered the rear window sunshade but manual for around the same price.

I installed the rear side window shades on my last two W210s. Easy to do myself. I also added the power rear sunshade this past summer. That's a bit more involved, and I wouldn't recommend anyone try it who's not mechanically inclined. There's really nothing tricky to it, but it does involve removing the driver's seat and a whole set of trim panels. Parts were pricey too. I am glad I did it though, since I now have a means to block sunlight out while the car's parked, and reduce headlight glare at night.
I'm still working on adding the foldable mirrors...

I am putting off window tint also, for the time being I am using a manual shade made in Italy. I purchased it from a vendor on Ebay.
I did try another option. After searching the web, I determined that an import power shade was avalible. It can be seen here:
http://www.myautoshades.com/Products...e=action3&id=8
I did not order from this vendor, I found an individual selling the identical item. I ordered it, but was not pleased with the quality. I returned this shade. Also, the total height of this shade is too short for a W210. I emailed 2 other sources for similiar power shades to see if the largest model's height would work. All models seem to be too short.
For my last try, I found another shade on Ebay. This one was actually 12 volt powered with a remote control. The one above is powered by 3 - 9 volt batteries. The pictures of these shades in use are really deceiving. So, I contacted a person that purchased this solution. The 12 volt model is much larger and would sit above the rear deck speakers. I decided not to try this one, but here is a picture in a 2002 Toyota Camrey.
Go with the manual shade or go with tint.
Best Regards,
Rob Lee

These are the rear side window blind part numbers I ordered back in April for my 2001 E430:
6 6 69 1306
6 6 69 1307
Hope this helps anyone considering this accessory! They were $120.00 each from Caliber Motors in Anaheim Hills, CA, 800-252-6877. They've always been very helpful out there.

PA28150, could you please give a short description of the rear sunshade install. I am particularly interested if the wiring was already in the harness or if you had to wire it yourself, and if so, some suggestions based on how you did it. I am guessing you had to wire it since you removed the driver's seat.

for vinceC,
To install the power rear sunshade, you need to add the additional wiring, switch, and sunshade unit. All the parts are available from MB...I can get you the part numbers if you like (at least they will apply to a 2001 W210). The wiring harness and switch are inexpensive, and are of such good quality that I wouldn't even consider trying to rig up something on my own.
The harness connects to the fuse box under the hood, runs to the console switch (so you'll need to modify the console wood cover to accept an additional switch, of course), taps into a ground under the driver's seat, then runs to the rear deck. The installation requires the removal of the trim pieces all along the driver's side of the car to access the wiring channels, removal of the driver's seat, and removal of the rear seat and rear seat back. You'll need to install a new rear deck too. Cars with no sunshade have a one-piece deck; the sunshade requires a two-piece rear deck.
Hope this helps. It's not a difficult installation, but it is time consuming because of all the work that has to be done in preparation...and it did take quite a while to get the new rear deck (the parts were direct ordered from Germany through Caliber Motors).

Thanks PA28150, that's just what I needed.
To Black 1994 C280. No, I did not know there was an event. I will be out of town until that morning anyway. Are you a MBCA member? I'm a past president and current treasurer/newsletter editor for the Virginia Section. We have some interesting events. We are going to the Amelia Island Concours in March. We are having a national event at VIR in September.

Rear Side Window Blinds
I don't have a photo of the rear blinds. They mount at the base of each rear window. The blind unrolls when each rear window is raised (the blind has a little hook that attaches to the top of the window glass), and rolls back up into its unit when the window is lowered.
To view a photo, you might try mbusa.com. They have photos of most accessories there -- just look around. It may be under the "Build Your Own" feature.
For .pdf files, please send me a private e-mail.

I have a manual rear shade in my C280. I'd like one in my 190E but with the first aid box and speakers in the way, I can't figure out how to do it. Did Mercedes make a rear blind for the 190E? I've seen one on a 500E and it looked great!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Don,
I'm sorry Jim was not responsive. If you like I can send a private E-mail with club info. You can also send me a private E-mail if you want info. You can view the section's website at www.mbca.org/virginia. We are having a brunch/meeting at the Williamsburg Hospitality House in Williamsburg on December 8th.
Sorry, I do not know if there was a rear shade for the W201 chassis.
I think I have seen your C280 around. Were you on Cedar Road in Chesapeake a week or so past?
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Vince
