I will ask the installer . . . .
thank you.
What did you find out? The previous owner of my car had XM installed as well. The hole in my glove box is the same...empty!

Not all models have that jack in the glove compartment - mine doesn't. I forget the distinction between those that do and don't but I saw it mentioned in some forum. Someone in this thread above said something about the command system. My '01 E430 has a premium Bose sound system with AM/FM/weather/cassette/CD changer and no jack in the glove compartment. The jack to the cd changer probably takes its place Wish it still had the jack for the MP3 or HD radio. I checked out the FM wireless devices but they have marginal performance from what I read so I use a cassette tape converter that I plug into my MP3 and it plays through the cassette heads. You can get the converter at any electronics outlet or department store for $10 to $18. The tape converter has to have a thin wire or the alarm on the cassette door will beep twice every 5 seconds that gets annoying after 10 seconds. You could also file a notch in the plastic for the wire to fool the alarm.

you can remove radio and pop the top shell off. tape the wire against the top of the cassette adapter. put the cassette into the cassette slot and pull the wire through the back of the head radio. plug in temporarely and make sure the cassette works. dissconnect the radio and put the top shell back on the top of the radio and run the wire into the dash and into the storage bin or the ashtray or anywhere you want your ipod or mp3 player or sattelite reciever and replace you radio head unit back into the dash. you have now created a new input. pm me and i'll give you more detailed directions.

Joe (and fellow NJ'er), was your car bought new? If your car is an '01 and you have bose and command you should have had it. I have an '01 with commnad, nav, voice, phone, bose /cd but NOT cassette and I have it. I didn't think that the casette used the auxl but maybe. CD does not use it in my car.

Mike430Sport - A Huge Thank you! I was surprised that my 2000 (with Command) had it!

The Aux Jack was exactly where you said it would be. And in under 5 minutes I snaked my male to male connector wire thru the left bottom side of my glove box (so I can use the wire and not have to have the glove box opened all the time) I have my iPod connected without using those awful radio-based adaptors!
