Spark Plug Change
I was told by my dealer that I need new spark plugs. They want to charge me $475 to do that.
I would rather not pay that, but I might be inclined to change them myself if it's "do-able".
I ran a search and came up empty.
So, can anyone point to a thread here or give me some insight on how to do this for my 2002 E430. Are there any tricks? Special Tools? Is it not possible for a do-it-yourselfer?
Thanks.

very possible and not terribly difficult.
The only special tool you may need is the coil near plug wire removal wrench. This is designed to pull the wire off the plug without damaging it.
After that, its a standard plug change, just with 2 plugs per cylinder.
Pop the hood in the vertical position, move the air intake tube and it shoudl be simple.

just buy
the oem style plugs, single side electrode, platinum like the bosch or the ngk, they are 2.79 -2.99 or so.No need for bosch 4,3,2,anything else.Oem go 100,000 miles with hardly any discernible wear,so why spend more for no improvment.

1998 E430
oem are 8 bucks a piece. and that's getting them online at a deal. dealer wants 12 a piece and I'm not putting ngk in it. are the 430 plugs different than the 320s?. factory ones are double platnum. not cheap. the reason I asked about the bosch 4s is because I got them for 5 a piece. double platnum also. I'm not putting dumpy plugs in this car. its in mint condition

Here we go again
oem plugs for your "mint"condition 1998 E430 were the same for every112/113 engine
oem was f8dpp332 superseded by fr8dpp33 both were single side electrode platinum plugs.the modern day replacement for this plug is the bosch platinum plus single side electrode plug, not bosch platinum 2 with two side electrodes or bp4 with 4 side electrodes.platinum plus were on sale for 2.99 ea. a few months ago at schucks/kraggens.
BKR5EGP/7090 in ngk also installed as a replacement to the original bosch platin plugs as they called them before the conversion to the newer models.the Bosch platinum plus and the NGK are the closest modern day replacements to the oem plug that were installed in these cars.Shop around I have found them for as low as $2.47 ea and bosch has a mail in coupon good for $1 off each on the platinum plus plug.

Or maybe if you put in the more expensive 2 or 4 or 6
sided electrode plugs, you too will have a (mint)
condition 10 year old used Mercedes like you know who! btw NGK is the worlds largest supplier of manf oem plugs, you may consider them dumpy plugs that you would not install in your (mint)E430
you would be wrong of course since bosch and ngk are the choice of car builders world wide.
And to think---I told you where to get an obd2 code scanner for $39 and now you bite the hand that feeds you.![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)

I did a write up a while back, I have a 1998 C43 with a 113 engine. The most helpful tool are these locking socket extensions they sell at Home Depot) I'm a Craftsman, Snap-On nut but they did not have). I would replace the wires at this time as well. Autohausaz.com had mine for $183 (free ship) I went with the Iridium plugs check out the post #8 --> LINK

nice
write up,you dont need anything more then the 17mm or the long 5/8 and a short ext variety on the w210 series, and you most assuredly do not need anti seize on the plugs, they are factory plated with an anti corrosion metal.Anti seize only makes the torque setting be off by about 30% and if gotten on the plugs electrode can cause it to arc out and you have a dead plug. Not needed
![bow](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bowdown.gif)
and no need to replace the wires either if you do the job the way it is done correctly no wires get removed except at the plug ,no wires get damaged, and no wires get displaced. No damage means these wire sets if not abused will last for a good 150000 to 200000 or more miles.no need to throw away good wires, check the resistance,on an old set if you want to prove it yourself.
