Cell Phone Antenna Cap

The 1.5" black hard rubber nub broke off the teleaid antenna at the back-center of the roof; after searching these forums and e-bay - I've found several opions on e-bay.
But, think that this "Cap Cell Phone Antenna": http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...=9&catalogid=2 may be the right part; all I'd have to do is unbolt the cover and slide in the new peice possibly with a bit of trimming.
Anyone able to comfirm this?

I just looked around my house for a black cap of sorts and made my own. Its a cover for a R/C model fuel container. I sealed the cover with canopy glue, perfect fit. I fly gas R/C helicopters so I have millions of little parts like these. My design is better design than the orig.

#7 in the picture is what you need. You have to buy the whole plastic with the rubber finger. I've seen it on eBay also. It's an easy job to install, only one tiny allen screw.

#8 and #9 are for different models.

I just replaced mine. I actually ordered #9 (cell phone cap) from http://www.oempartsdirect.com/search.php but when it arrived it came as part number 210 827 0031 (part #7 but just the plastic cap with rubber cap, not tele aid assembly). They charged me $6.80 for it, not the more than $300 for the entire tele-aid antenna assembly.
Just make sure you give them your VIN and they automatically change it to the correct part. However, tell them the car color since mine came in the wrong color. No big deal though as I just pulled out the rubber cap and inserted it in my original plastic cover.

Hope that helps.

Hi,
I had the following email exchange with the folks at http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?SiteID=214448

Question: Part Number 2108270031: Aps - Standard 1998 - 2002 (OBSIDIAN BLACK). Request price and availability. Thanks!

Reply: The part number you have provided me with is, according to Mercedes-Benz, not a native part number for your particular vehicle. If you're looking for the cap for the phone antenna on your E55, the proper part number is 210-820-14-75. The list price on it is $100.80, and your cost would be $68.00. I would, of course, be happy to provide you with the part you are asking about - I just wanted to let you know about the above in case it proved necessary. List price on this part number would be $128.00 and your cost would be $90.95. Thanks! Chris

At this point I'm still living with the dangly little antenna element, since the $10 to $90 differential seems a bit extreme. Kinda liked the $6.80 answer.

heat-shrink tubing

BenzWorkshop here in Austin repaired mine with some heat shrink tubing. It looks fine, and he didn't charge me. Nothing to lose.

Same thing happened to wife's. Part number 210-827-31-9143 Cap was list $128.34, dealer sold for $96.00. Yes it was pricey, but it was fast and it was rainy season here in Florida.

I found a $6.00 fake phone antenna with a magnetic base at my local Pep-Boys. The diameter of the antenna was pretty close but it was a bit too tall.
I carefully trimmed the length on the part that went insid ethe magnetic base and it fit like a glove. I also had to drill a deep hole into the antenna to make the plastic tip hollow (so the tele-aid piece would go inside). I melted the new antenna to flare out the part that went inside the MB base to keep it together. It hasn't come apart yet; even through the carwash.

I keep thinking about the black rubber tubing we used to use in chemistry lab (also was used in commercial sling shots). It was dirt cheap and could easily be trimmed to size and stick a bit of glue or rubber in top and glue bottom directly to the cap. There has to be some cheapo hunk of rubber that we can glue over the element?

Smile Finally done

Well, kinda hate to necro a thread - but wanted to close it out and provide a potential solution for folks with this issue. I got a "Mercedes Antenna Cover for Roof Mount Antenna" from E-bay seller Karl Blasavage at litchfieldhillsauctions@gmail.com.
Cost was 24.99 + shipping for the 1.75" rubber stub that fits over the wire antenna/element at the rear of the roof antenna cover (not the entire antenna cover).
Installation was quick and easy: 2.5mm allen - loosen bolt that secures cover - remove cover (fits snugly on the base) - remove base of old rubber stub (mine did not come off with the cover - but was still attached to the antenna base) - install new rubber stub into cover (fits nice and snug - won't allow water intrusion under normal circumstances) - replace cover over antenna element and bolt to base. Installation instuctions include a note not to over-tighten to avoid cracking the cover, which I had to balance against wanting to get the cover nice and secure - seemed to work fine!
Good luck to all and have a great 2008! Any questions, recommend you email Karl, I'm sure he'd be glad to help although I didn't see any of his items currently active on e-bay.

I just installed this item from Karl Blasavage on Ebay yesterday,

It looks perfect. It was so easy to install and no cutting etc. Slip it on and screw the cap back on DONE. He also has a money back guarantee. Sorry no picture right now. I can post one later today.

Pic of product

MB>BMW:
Here it is; for the $24.99 "buy it now price": it's the 1.75" by 3/8" hollow tapered cylindrical rubber near-verticle black stub. Picture quality isn't the best - but at least I've finally used my cell phone cam for something :p

MB Dealer

Dropped by the local MB dealer to purchase the "black tip". First she stated that I would have to purchase the entire antenna cap, then I gave her my vin# and wholla.....purchased only black tip for $10. So I am sure if I can get others should be able to.

Fascinating

Did you get a receipt with P/N and assuming your car is a W210 and the cap is black? Was it a service advisor or the parts department?

Hopefully, I won't break another one off for another few years...but still confounds me that this little (and nearly useless) item is so elusive

The wife picked it up Monday, I'll install this weekend and let folks know the P/N......car is w210 and color of antenna cap is not important, since the rubber piece is identical to all colors.
