I am pondering over the idea of installing an aftermarket nav like Pioneer/ Eclipse rather than the MB command in my 01 E30.
Looking to find out if this modification is possible and if someone has already done this.
Also which brand /screen-size will fit perfectly with the double din wood trim for the W210’s? I am trying to avoid any open space between the wood trim and the nav screen

not sure how to advise you on brands; i'm told garmin is VERY good from a trusted source and im going to consider that, but on a dash-mount setup (i don't have stock nav in my car).
first, do you have the piece of wood trim necessary for the job? If you have stock nav, may i ask why you'd want to replace it? i had it on an e430 once and loved it, though of course it doesn't have some of the amenities the newer ones give.
if you have the piece of wood trim, pop it out and go to a store, see what will fit by trying to fit the screen over the navi screen slot. i'm sure best buy sells these...? looking at measurements online is good too, but that won't be as good as physically bringing the piece of trim into a store and fitting it over a bunch of models.

Fju2112 - Thanks for your response. I have the garmin Nuvi and you are in the market take a look at the Nuvi it is excellent out of the box. I will ordering the wood trim this weekend and I don't have the stock nav in my car so I am open to buying the stock nav or aftermarket……was leaning towards the aftermarket keeping the price of stock nav set up.
I like follow your suggestion of taking the wood screen and finding the right fit. Thanks for your response and Go Red Sox !!

This particular Pioneer unit has a big flaw I found out, and that is that you have to keep switching the nav disc with audio or or whatever type of discs you want to play. The thread is good to know what it takes to do it. Looks like a very straightforward install.
Cheers

I installed a Pioneer Z1 into my W210. Its not a small modification, since I put in a brand new audio system with it. In addition, the single DIN conversion with a brand new centre console trim was needed. Although my navi fits nicely and working properly in my car; however, I have to change the whole interior trim (Carbon Fibre) instead of the wood trims. PM me your email, so I will send you the pics.
