Changing Cabin Air Filter '97 E300... Change radio to IMPROVE sound

Can anyone give a step by step guide how to replace the cabin dust filter? Lightman told me it's behind the glovebox, which makes sense. But I don't know how to properly take it apart...

On another note. I recieved the radio harness adaptor from Becker and installed my higher model Pioneer radio, and the difference in sound with just the radio alone is astounding. Everything sounds that much cleaner and louder. If you want to be **** you can use the RCA outputs and hook them up to the speakers leads, but thats overkill. Advantage, you can turn your radio up a lot louder at a higher volume value. For the audiophiles :-)

YOu have to remove the glove compartment its held by 6 screws 1 on each side 2 on the top (inside glove box near the lamp)2 on the bottom hidden by rubber plug. After you revove the glove box you will see a rectangular shape with white lock or something remove it and you will find the filter inside.YOu will see an improvement NO more loud blower.

E320 is right, 6 screws and the glovebox slides right out. Bosch has some car-specific instructions with pictures. Tried to find the link for you, but the Bosch site was down. It's the German site (www.bosch.de), drill through into air filters, and they have instructions. If you have charcoal filters they're easier to get to, one panel under the dash on the passenger side.

Yes on the location and glove box removal. Sometimes the glove box hangs up at the top center. If it does, insert a slender piece of metal like a butter knife and pry down gently.

For act. carbon remove plastic panel under dash starting with louver on side of trans hump. Once off you'll see filter chambers.

For both cabin filters and act. carbon filters there are two elements. In the cabin filters there is one opening so remove first one and then slide over and remove second.

For the activated carbon filters there are two chambers. Note filters are slightly different shape so match to one removed.

Good luck.

The white plastic clips that secure the bottom holders for the charcoal filters are fiddly so note carefully how they fit as you remove them. One clip slides toward the front of the car to release and one slides to the back. The charcoal filters are pretty pricey (~$100 aftermarket and up to twice that at the dealer) so you may want to consider if you really need them. If they no longer remove bad smells from the air, replacement might be warranted, but even then, I don't think there's any harm in not changing them.

The cabin dust filters should be changed once a year though, because they do get clogged with dirt and will reduce the efficiency of the climate control system.
