Excessive Break Lining Wear E320
I drive a 2000 E320 Wagon and have just replaced my front break pads for the second time . My car has 26K miles on it. The first time after 12K miles I was told "the breaks are soft and it is not unusual to replace them so quickly". This time another Service Manager said " It must be your driving habits since I have only one other client who goes through pads so quickly". HELP does anyone have any information about the breaks??

I have 13K miles on my '00 E430. The front pads have about 1/4" remaining; probably good for another 5-6K miles. My '81 280E's pads lasted just about 12K miles and my '87 300D's about 20K miles. I think MBZ pads are made from relatively soft materials by design (to wear out the pads instead of the rotors?). Luckily pads are easy to replace. Costs about $60 per axle and takes about half an hour.
My '99 Chevy Silverado's original pads have seen 60K miles and are still good for another 40K, at least. Incredible.

Hello
Replacing the break pads on Benz E320 is the same procedure like any other cars ? Need to work on my wife car
Should I get the pads from Benz dealer or after market ?
Any advise would be helpful.
TIA

All disc brakes are more or less the same, when it comes to replacing pads. If you are doing it yourself, be sure to use jack stands. Also, do one side at a time (don't remove parts from both sides at the same time). This way, if you are not sure how to put back the parts, you can always go to the other side to find out.
If you don't feel comfortable, you might want to pay a mechanic to do it while you watch. Any mechanic should know how to replace disc brake pads. You'll see it's really easy and next time you will want to do it yourself.
I replaced my front pads at 16,000 miles nine months ago. I bought the pads from a Mercedes dealer. Perhaps there are better pads, but I couldn't help you on that because I don't know much about after market pads.
Good luck.

My OEM pad used to last around 15-20K mile, not to mention it produce tons of dirt. Take about a day for the rim to get dirty after car wash.
Took Phil suggestion and put in PBR Deluxe ($20 extra compared to OEM). No dirt whatsoever, car stop on a dime, it's been 20K mile already, and look like the brake is barely worn.
