Accelerator Issues and Check Engine Light PLEASE HELP!
1st my 2001 AMG E55 would shut down after about 5 minutes of runing and the Check Engine light would come on. It would re-start again after a few minutes and not do it again till next time I used it. I could start it a few times and the Check Engine light would go back out. Now when I start it up it runs fine just sitting there but when I press the accelerator down nothing happens then after a few seconds the rpm's wil begin to slowly rise till it reaches the cut off. IT'S NOT A FUEL ISUE. If I press the accelerator down and then start it with the accelerator depressed it will rev upwards the second it starts then imediately drop back down again and be non responsive. The Check Engine light stays on now too. Is there any way to check the code without an OBD2 tester? I can't drive it now. Has anyone had this experience with there car? Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! When sitting there ideling nothing seems wrong at all and when it gradualy accelerates, the same thing, nice and smooth. I know it is not fuel and not electrical and not a dead battery. Maybe a sensor? But which one?

Got the scanner today!
It took some time but I got the unit today hooked it up and got a code of P0220 .
the generic dtc definitions in the book it came with says TPS Pedal Position sensor/switch B Circuit Malfunction.
Not sure what part that means but it goes along with my problem of stepping on the gas and not getting a proper response. (slowly the rpm's will rise. REAL SLOWLY!)
Any idea what part may be the culprit?

By the way, the sender on the 210 is in the engine compartment, not at the accelerator pedal.

Throttle position sensor
it relays the short length of cable travel from the gas pedal to the sensor located just ahead of the brake fluid reserve on the drivers side engine area,turns mechanical energy into a potentiometer voltage to tell the car how much fuel to be fed into the engine.Looks like it is unplugged or faulty.Check all wires to it and since I never had one go bad i cant tell you what values it should be putting out if you back probed it with a multimeter to see if it was doing it's job,easy diy if you find one at autohausaz.com call them or ask online if they can get one,or oempartsdirest or duval motors.
