Question Rough Idle

Hi everybody, im new to these forums, i've been looking around here and saw that alot of people here know what theyre talking about while i was researching why my brake lights werent coming on, but anyway;
When I start my 97 E420 it says check engine electrectronics and drives and accellerates sluggishly as if it were about to stall out, except it hasnt, ive seen a post about someone washing their engine, but this is not the case as i didnt wash my engine, however i did drive the car in a rainstorm a few days ago and coming off of a ramp that went down and then up, the lowest point on the ramp was flooded pretty bad, when i drove through it, it was like the ride at six flags when u go through the water at the bottom of the slope ande slow down, my car almost stopped in the middle of it but it made it through.. but yea, does anybody here think that might be the start of this problem? and if so, what should i do, i really dont want to take my car to Viti as theyre ridiculously expensive and theyll probably do a whole bunch of other **** for my car that i didnt ask just so they can charge me
any insight to this would greatly be appreciated

Be careful buddy, going into deep water like that with these cars you're running the risk of hydro locking your engine which is very very bad... but looks like you're in the clear.

water in spark plug wells is a possible cause. if you got water in those, it will just sit there and oxidize the connections on the spark plug wires or short out the wire before electricity gets to the spark plug. the first thing I would do is check on those and see if you have any water stuck in those and let them air out or blow the water out with air compressor.

Another possible cause is that you might have gotten some dirty water into your air intake and dirtied your MAF sensor. there are people who know how to clean that up on here, i've never done it before.
