e320 Damage
Ok, this is so fricken frustrating. Last night I come back to my car which i left in a parking lot, as i pulling up behind it in my friends car I see that someone had hit the back. It's not dramatic damage but it's still damage, it the upper part of the bumper

Looks like a towing hook hit it when someone with a truck or something was backing up. (like the towing hook on my car in my sigpic) *****ty damage though, the bumper could be a DIY project but the part below the rear light needs bodywork. I fear $$$ for it all cuz it needs a paintjob. Didn't they leave a note?

you should be able to handle the bumper cover-with patience. For the body dent, take off the inner trunk panel and use a 2x4 and a soft mallet to form the dent out. If you take it slow and use something with a broad base to make contact w/ the metal, you can tweak the damage so taht it doesn't look so bad...on the other hand if you have money, a body shop will fix it up

It's not only his bumper cover, the edge of the bumper above the cover is also shattered. You can cover up a lot if you're handy but it's gonna take a another bumper plus cover to really fix it...unfortunatly.

the edge of the bumper above the bumper molding that is shatered can be filled by the body shop, so no need for a new bumper, only a new bumper molding (impact strip). when you order the bumper molding, it will come unpainted, so the shop can then paint both the bumper molding along with that little part of the bumper that was fixed. same thing happened to me a few days ago, but i was lucky since only the bumper molding was damaged, not the bumper itself. the whole thing should cost you around $300-350 (bumper molding part + fixing bumper labor + painting) from a good body shop. the picture below is of my e320 a few days ago. the below website was suggested to me by another forum member (risque1). on the "body parts catalogue" side put in the year of your car > model > rear bumper > bumper and components > molding > w/out parktronic. it will give you a nice diagram.

if they have a sur camera in the lot.
turn it in to your insurance co. with no witness and no car to prove damage they will file it under malicious damage and you just pay your ded. and get it fixed and be done with it.

.....all that said above, there's a question in my mind whether the force of
the impact may have skewed the dimensions of the rear.....enough so that
the trunk is no longer aligned with the lid. so be sure you sight along the
gap (when closed) to ensure that the tap from the other vehicle hasn't
tweaked the subframe. if so, tack on another grand in labor.
