Fuel tank capacity

I searched it over and couldn't find an answer but what is the fuel tank capacity for my 1998 E280 in litres or U.S. gallon?

1998 E320 Sedan
Fuel Tank Capacity: 21.1 gallons or 79.87 Litres for the US version 1998 E320 Sedan.

Its the same for European versions, too. Also, its the same for either the 3.0Ltr Diesel or 3.2Ltr Gasoline engines.

Hi johnny's E320,

Both my 1997 E300 and my friends 1999 E320 have a 70 Litre tank listed in the manual (inc the reserve) this is also confirmed in Factory Spec sheet for both cars.

Can you provide citation to your 79.87 Litre claim ?

Hi jamieh,

I gathered the info froma website at http://www.automotive.com/1998/101/m...ons/index.html

Also found on http://www.auto123.com/en/new/carinf...ATIC&year=1998

And here: http://www.motortrend.com/cars/1998/...pecifications/

All of them state an 80Ltr fuel tank, even for the diesels. I've never really paid attention to how many gallons I put into the tank. I simply fill it up every time I run low.

I just checked that web link above, but for my '02...they say 80 litres, but that only converts to ~18 Gallons...and I thought I had a 22 G tank.

Hmm.....

You do,
To convert from Liters to U.S. Gallons, multiply the number of Liters by 0.26417.

21.14 gal US.

Or in the UK multiply the number of Liters by .219

17.6 gal UK.

E280 1998
OK finally I had the time and guts to run it dry, I took a gallon of petrol from the fuel station and drove around aimlessly until it ran out, filled the gallon and proceeded to the nearest fuel station.. about 2 KMs. and it took 16.8 gallons to fill it up, add the gallon I filled already, that makes it 17.5 gallons plus or minus for a E280 1998 GCC specification and there was no low fuel flashing light or anything, just the regular yellow light until it lost power to a total stop. Also there was some engine trembling after refill for sometime then disappeared.

BTW the full tank ran my car for 640 KMs
