I've Got A Few Problems
Hi, I've recently acquired a 1999 Mercedes E320. The car was actually previously in an accident, so we had to have a few parts installed when we got it. After installing most of the parts, there are a few things wrong we noticed. One thing that is a big problem right now is the left license plate light on the trunk. It won't turn off, and it ran down the battery last night, causing us to have the car be towed because it wouldn't jump start. The next problem is since we had to replace the headlights, we discovered that it is missing the pigtails for the signal lights, or at least, that is what I have been told they are called. Does anyone know where I can buy this part, as well as light bulbs? Also, we need to buy the black part that is below the bumper. Does anyone know what that part is called, and where I could buy it? Lastly, and least importantly (to me at least) is that the BAS/ASR light is on. Does anyone know what causes this? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum and I'm sure you'll find the answers here eventually.
You can find lots of places online for body parts, electrical parts, etc. For the lower valance on the front bumper, try starting at http://shop.mercedesautobodypartstor...ement&s=1&my=1
Its only one spot to shop. Not sure what model E320 you have (sedan, wagon, etc) but if you try hard, you'll fine everything. Also, on Ebay, you can purchase CDs with manuals, parts catalogs, service info, etc. I bought some and they're worth it.
As far as the trunk light, not sure exactly what's going on. I do know that if you open the trunk and you DON'T want the light on, you simply have to grab onto the small grey light peg sticking out of the edge of the trunk lid (when you close the lid it pushes in and turns off the light) and if you PULL it out, it makes a click and turns the light off. Then when you close the trunk, it resets and keeps off the light until you open it again. Why yours is off all the time, I don't know.
Oooops. I just re-read your post. You were talking about the license plate light. That's a new one. Sounds like a short. Does the other light work? They should be on the same curcuit.

The right license plate light works correctly, when the headlight and taillights are turned on, that one turns on and off with it correctly, but the left one stays on all day and night. I had to disconnect the battery tonight to prevent it from dying by tomorrow. Thanks for your other information though.

You need to get into the wires and trace it to the hot source and hook it up properly.Or until you do that disconnect the wire to just that bulb and tape it up so it does not short,you need to go behind the liner in the trunk to get at the plate wiring or to just pull the offending bulb..By disconnecting the battery now and when it ran down the other day,that triggered the bas and asr warning.Low voltage below 10.5 volts and disconnecting the battery will set them off.So as long as you are unhooking the battery instead of the bulb,the problem warnings will keep appearing.Also you will need to reset your steering angle sensor,resync your windows and sun roof and enter your radio code every time you rehook up the battery.
Bumper lip call the mb wrecking yards or oempartsdirect.
Dealer or bone yard will have the pig tails for the signal lights or any good auto electric shop.
H7 bulbs stock you can get at any auto chain store,or if you want more light

What i am thinking is that the previous owner might have put a LED or another bulb in. like h0rnet stated in another thread, he put in a LED and the light stays on all night. Try switching the light bulbs from your working right side to your left. Does the same problem reoccure?

yea mine only stays on for the dome light though. all the other LEDS (Have them in the parking lights and licence plate lights) go off and stay off when they are supposed to.

Ok, well I stopped at a few dismantlers today to look for the pigtails and bottom part of the bumper, and from the places I went to, they either told me they couldn't sell the pieces separately, or that they don't have it. From what I've seen, the part of the bumper is called either the "skid plates,""bumper shield," or the "bumper lip." Does anyone know the correct term so I can know what the name is exactly, allowing me to better search for the part? Also, does anyone know the name of an a specific place that might aid in me finding the pig tails for the signal light in the Fontana/Rancho Cucamonga/Southern California area? Or even better, if there is a better name for it so I could ask at Autozone or something, that would greatly help. I haven't been able to find it on ebay either because I'm not sure that I know the right name. The suggestions for the trunk light are great, but that reminds me of another problem, the trunk only opens with the metal key, and even then it is a hassle because it doesn't open easily. The trunk does not open with the button in the car, or with the smartkey button. Does anyone know what is causing this? All of you guys' help is greatly appreciated.

So I've been doing some searching around, and since I realized the E320 uses 1156 bulbs for the turn signal, it only makes sense that it uses a 1156 socket, right? So I have found a socket that says it uses 1156 bulbs on ebay, but the question is, would this socket be able to be installed, and would it work?
