ASR Warning mistery
I like to ask for help if I can.
I have 1998 E320 with 55,000 miles. Runs and looks great.
Recently my ASR warning light comes on then it switches to BAS. Then stays on. The car still runs like nothing happen. Still fast no other symptoms at all.
I can go for days with aggressive driving and nothing happens, then other day I go very slow and the ASR then BAS light comes on for no apparent reason.
I have spend hours searching for forums and it looks like many people having the same problem. Mine is different because it doesn't go in the limb/slow mode at all. it has full acceleration etc.
Most answers are:
Faulty brake switch (I tested this one and looks fine). How? Press the bake pedal and start the car, keep it pressed for 3 minutes and release the pedal, if the ASR light on comes on = faulty switch = change it!
(not my case)
Then it could be alignment (that will have the light on every day)
not my case
Dirty sensors (again light will come on every day)
not my case
Anything else that anyone can suggest?
Or I can just bridge pin #1 to pin #6 and the light should go away.
Any other suggestions? (no I haven's run the scan yet)
One more: I did changed the battery just resently and reset the windows etc, but not the wheels just read it could have afected the ASR.
How do I reset exactly the wheels. Disconnect the battery again, then connect, then turn the wheels complete right and complete left. How long, how many times?
TIA
If all of those things check out, spray some brake cleaner into all the brake calipers and then was it off with a strong stream of water. At times brake dust can foul the sensors and trigger the warning. If this does not work, replace the brake switch. The check you performed is not always conclusive of it being the problem

The battery is like 2 moths old, but I didn't center the wheels.
In this case I will disconnect the battery, step on the brakes, reconnect, sync the windows and center the wheels.
Will see what happens.
regardless I will start to look for the switch
just in case.Thanks again man.

) and got the same symptoms (without the BAS system since I dont have it but instead got ABS message). It turned to be a blown fuse at the driver side near the steering wheel. Give it a try.
