Bolts that hold down engine cover over spark plugs
Thre of the bolts that hold down the engine cover over the spark plugs on my 1997 E329 straight 6 seem stripped or impossible to thred
I guess I should re thread them and get longer bolts but I am afaid to use the right type of bolts in the aluminum head
I don't want them to seize
Should I use stainless? What thead? What length?
They seem to bottom out fast

Don't drill down further - you will probably go right through to the inside of the valve cover.
Get an M6 x 1.0 Heli-Coil set P/N 5403-6. Use the 12 mm long inserts. Reuse the original bolts. If you can't find a set locally order through www.mcmaster.com.
