I took my car in for "B" Service today and they called and said something about my High Low horn needs to be replaced at the cost of $245. I thought that cars only had one type of horn, but apparently there are 2 horns? How does that work - don't you just press the middle of the steering wheel and get one horn sound? Or, is it just one horn that has 2 names?

I believe there are 2 horns...most cars nowadays have 2. If you pop the hood open and look somewhere behind the front grill you should see them. And yes you press the horn button and it's just one time sound, but coming from 2 horns which is louder than just one horn

On my wifes E320, I replaced the 2 horns with the older style ones. (From a 87 or so). Easy, under $100, and now it sounds like a Benz. Use spade wire connectors so you don't cut your harness, and they plug in. As for high low, one horn is a higher frequency than the other.
These newer model plastic horns sounds to much like a Toyota. Yuck!

I put a Stebel horn on my Honda ST1300 motorcycle and now considering it in my MB. These Italian manufactured horns are incredible and not that expensive. They make them for cars and right up to large ships. You can actually go to their website and listen to the horns. They are loud!! You can buy them singularly (hi or lo) or both in a set. I recommend buying both since the twin tone sound is much better, and louder too.

Here is the website. When I get the horn I'll post a DYI.

Stebel Horn Products

I'm considering the TM80 Magnum Series and 136dB. Loud! Most cars are around 112-118dB.

hey, V. one horn is right by the radiator, up front. the other horn should be
buried below the pax side headlight....which you'll need to remove in order to
get to the horn. fortunately for y/our model year, this is a painless, 15 mins
