E430 wont start

E430 wont start
Just wanted to post a problem I had that I finally had fixed and give some of the symptoms to you guys so it may help someone in the future. A 2000 E430 with 100000 miles on it. Wife drove it to work and came out to leave and it would not start. Put key in, turn key to position 2 lights on dash work, Turn to start and nothing. Wife has car towed home, I'm at work (firefighter). Get home and the car is in the yard, wont start. I check the forum, and go through the checks, Battery, charged, check water, vots. Good. I noticed that when I put the key in position 2 the Gear indicator box on the display was blank, even if I move it through the gears, still blank. I crawl under the car and cross the starter with a screw driver, walla the car starts and runs. But still, no gear is visible on the instrument panel. Drive the car and it was stuck in first gear, wont shift and the w/s switch is not making the familiar click when you shift it. I finally loaded it on my car trailer and towed it to the dealer. Dealer called back in two hours and said the shift module was out. The reason the car would not start and the display was not showing what gear it was in was because the shift module was haywire and the car did not understand what it was saying. Just thought I would share this incase someone else came accross it also. Thanks

Did anyone spill something into the shifter?Leave the sunroof open and it rained? Car goes into limp mode.Just a few of the things that can toast the trans module.

CAR WONT START KEY TURNS DASH LIGHTS UP and WONT SHIFT OUT OF GEAR
I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM CAR RAN AND DROVE FINE YESTERDAY GOT CAR TO START MESSING WITH SHIFTER AND DROVE IT IT WOULDNT SHIFT OUT OF 1 ST GEAR HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE OR KNOW WHATS THE PROBLEM IS CAR IS 99 E 430
