topping off fuel

I just filled my 2000 E320 this morning, of course w/ 91 octane. Somehow the pump did not stop and it overflow, topping off the tank. Now the car is hesitant, slow to react if I step on the gas, like being choked. Anybody had this experience? How can I resolve this issue?

Never top
off. Use the auto shut off feature and shut it down at the first click. If you get fuel down the overflow vent it can pollute the evap charcoal canister and that will cause problems, codes, poor running, ruin charcoal canister.
Just drive it around today, remove the gas cap tonight and let it sit for about an hour, replace the cap(make sure it is on straight)
No check engine light?
you should be fine

Thanks for the reply guys. It was really overflowing. Gasoline was flowing out of the filler as soon as I remove the pump. I'll try OhLord's advice and will post the result here.

Put the fuel nozzle in the filler neck fully. (in as far as it will go) You can use the auto shutoff lock. When the nozzle clicks off that is it! Don't try to squeeze any more in.
FWIW some cars can be topped off just not Mercedes. My Chevy truck can take 2.5 gal. after it clicks off first time.

In one sense, you guys are lucky. In NJ (and Oregon), state law forces you to let the attendant handle the pumping, else we'd all blow ourselves up of course.
Even though most everyone pays by credit card these days, the workers still have the mindset up rounding up to the nearest dollar after the auto-shutoff so they don't have to bother both coins. Did I mention we are paying by credit card?
I have to specifically tell them not to do that, every single time.

Yatch Master is right. That is exactly what happened to me yesterday - rough running, fuel shooting out of the filler and I forgot to mention, it stalled at a signal light. However, it runs fine now. Last night I started the engine, popped up the hood, checked for any leaks or unusual noise, I revved up the engine just to see what happens. When it reached the 4000 rpm, the engine started to shake, runs rough and a little bit of smoke out of the tailpipe. Any advice?? This never happens while driving because I don't reach the 4000 rpm driving. Thanks a lot guys.

Thanks for the clarification OhLord. I think very few MB owners know about this park rev limiter, me included. Thanks a lot. BTW, in changing the tranny fluid, I have read in one of these forums about a thermometer to measure the fluid temp. Is this required or can we rely on the dipstick?

The
dipstick (i sell
for $40 has low and high temp lines. You can if you measure what you drain out and replace short of that run the car and measure the level. However a infrared thermo is not that much at

and that is even more accurate.Level is critical and latest info on fill level would make it seem that that is the best method.
