considering purchase of 2000 E320 wagon
I am thinking of purchasing a 2000 E320 wagon, 77k miles and am wondring what are some of the common problems/issues with this car that I should be looking for. any help or pointers are GREATLY appreciated.

How much do they want?
Do you have its service history?
Have you had it professionally inspected?
Have you checked that all recall work has been completed?

Get it
inspected.Rusty spring perches need to be examined for presence.
Harmonic balancer recall needs to have the vin checked by the dealer if it needed to be done on that production date model.
The inspection should include a check of all systems including the transmission.
Make sure everything works,dash pixels,lights,a/c.
Inspect the under carriage, bushings,ball joints, brakes.
$12,500 is a few grand to high ,private party cash deal you hold the cards and market is about $10500 tops.
they most likely have been offered dealer trade in of about 8K so a 10k offer is money in the bank to them.
Do all the inspections.
Don't be pressured to jump.
Get the price down,or leave your phone number and walk,the guy will call you when he figures out he is asking to much.

2000 E320 Wagon
just saw it
Just saw the car. It is clean throughout (as one would expect of a single owner Mercedes). has third row seat and 6cd changer. Transmission was fixed two years ago under extended warranty. It now seems to be in good shape and is very smooth (no kicking etc). All pixels seem to work on the display module. slight alignment is needed for the front wheels (it is barely noticeable). Underneath looks good. CVs in ok shape. no oil drips or dings. two months ago plugs and wires were changed. has just passed smog. Water pump was changed last November. tires ok, breaks ok, shocks/strutts ok and no sign of rust.
drove the car and got 19.8 MPG for 7 miles (in town, up-hill, freeway, and back in-town driving. is this typical?

about 27hway and 24 avg is what we get on our 99.
did you get it inspected or just look for rust?The spring perches need to have the mastic peeled back and the spring welds inspected.Spend the money to get a ppi on it before you have problems.Offer him 10

I think I am going to have the car checked completely in and out for rust. Looks like this is definitely a common issue (especially if the car was kept in relatively damp climate). I'm also going to bargain the price down and see what happens. Thanks so much

of advice.Never deal down always make them deal up.You are the cash buyer he is the over priced seller.
Get it inspected by a pro that knows how to check the perch issue.
Have him get the service records.
