Check

the fuses, since you have those other issues. If not that then most likely the passenger seat occupancy sensor has a bad connection or is shot and needs to be replaced.
diy on benzworld.org w210 diy section
he pulled the seat others have done it with the seat in the car.

I bought the part online and had an auto upholstery guy install it for me. Didnt take long for him to remove the seat, remove the leather from the frame, replace. Not a very easy DIY though. Mercedes dealer will hit your for $600 easy

Do you have a part number for that? I need one too. Lights been on for 3 years now.

I read the entire thread but missed a part number. Anyone have it?

By the way, I had thought the sensor controlled only the passenger side, so if a passenger was not detected, the bag would not deploy on that side (which is reasonable considering they cost $700 to replace.

If all bags are disabled, I'll get right on this. It was one thing to risk the wife, but quite another to risk myself.

I guess this is one situation where the real test might turn out quite badly.

So you're saying that the SRS light on the instrument cluster is caused by the passanger seat sensor? Im trying to see the pics on benzworld and I regiestered and I still dont have privelages (GAY) so can anyone post those pics of how to replace the seat sensor if thats what I even need? Actually it very well might be since when someone sits in the passanger seat, the little light by the window switches says "AIRBAG OFF" and when someone is not sitting there, the light is off, so its doing the oposite of what it needs to do, so is that pretty much why the SRS light is on?

I was at the dealer and is this the part I need? I was quoted about $175(around there) from the dealer, will this clear my SRS light?

will changing the sensor clear the SRS light on dash immediately or do I need to clear with a scanner? Also, how do you go about fixing it? And, will any seat sensor work from others MB? Theres a seat sensor on ebay from a 99 C280, will that work? or from a CLK or whatever?

That is the part. Actually as Ohlord mentioned, the problem is usually caused by the wire from the sensor. It comes out of a hole at the seat bottom where it is strapped against a sharp edge (smart move Mercedes). Every time someone sits in the seat the wire moves against the sharp edge eventually it gets cut and/or grounds out to the seat. That is what happened to mine. You can try to repair the wire although you'll need to get the seat out to do it. You can feel the wire and strap if you lift the seat up all the way and stick your hand under there. The wire goes to a yellow connector. Air bag wires are always yellow.

Regarding the "Air Bag Off" light, when it is working properly it should only go on when you start the car and shut off in a few seconds. It doesn't matter if anyone is in the passenger seat. The on and off thing you mentioned is probably cause by the faulty wire

Here's the kicker. That stupid sensor is only there to work with a special Mercedes Baby Car Seat that goes in the front seat and plugs in under the seat. That car seat was probably never even sold in America because we alway put our baby seats in the back, where it is safer. It's an over-engineered useless feature that costs us $$ to maintain. And if your thinking about bypassing it, that wont work because it's a data bus and if the system doesnt see the sensor, the airbag will light up on the dash

i also have the SRS light that turned on randomly last week... i'm trying to figure out if its a bad passenger side sensor or if its just a break in the circuit of my dash.

i have an avic-D3 installed for about a year now with no problems, but i did notice that the LED light under the storage bin under the climate control is out. could this break caused the SRS light to go off?

i know that when some of the components were unplugged during the avic-D3 install, the SRS light came on indicating an inactive SRS warning... but once everything was plugged in and i drove around it went away. this happened both times when i cracked open the headunit.

i just want to make sure that its the seat sensor before i go out of my way and have it replaced.

any advice?

thanks!

My '96 E320 has the SRS light on for over 6 months... too lazy to have it fixed... Last week I took my car in my Indy for another service, he hooked it up to a computer and determine that it's on the passenger seat, he just "resetted" it and it's gone away for more than a week now... free of charge... so hopefully it won't come back

will airbags go out?

I have this same problem of the red SRS light always on, is it true that the airbags might go out at anytime (not in an accident)? i just heard it from someone and that wouldnt be so nice.
Thanks

I have never heard of an unnecessary airbag deployment resulting from any wiring or sensor problem in these cars. What is more likely is that the airbags will not deploy in an accident though.

SRS Light Dealer says module is out

Hey guys. I was about to order a passenger seat sensor and replace it for the steady SRS light but decided to take it in to have it diagnosed to be sure it wasnt a seat belt sensor. Dealer says that the SRS module is bad and wants 975 bucks to replace it. They said it's bad because they cant get any connection to it with star to see if its a seat belt or seat sensor problem. Also they told me that module is coded to the Vin so I can't pull it out of the wrecking yard. Just hoping someone can tell me it this is true. The tech said he has never or rarely(cant remember which) seen one go bad but that's what it is. There was quite of bit of coke or soda spilled in the center console because the mirror switch was stuck and shot so I pulled one out of the pick n pull and replaced it and found it pretty sticky. Its possible it got down into the module and destroyed it maybe. I just bought the car about a week ago with the light on hoping it was the passenger seat problem. Any help would be sweet.

Just buy this on eBay way easier and quick fix. It will turn the light off and airbag will always be on.
