Dash Time Light on 1999 E430
Folks:
My time light on the dash has gone out to the point that you can make out the time only when it is not in direct sunlight.
While at the dealer for service I casually mentioned the light and was quoted $109 to replace it!!!! I told him to forget it. He said that you have to take the dash out to replace the light.
Is there an easy way to replace this light?

The pixels
are dead or just the back lighting bulb?If just the bulb a whole cluster set of hooks and the radio removal keys are only $25 you put the hooks into the slots in the cluster pull it out replace the bulb and you are done.They are charging you a full shop hour for a ten minute job.

Easy job as oh lord says. I didn't bother with the tools ..just used small needle nose pliers and a soft cloth so not to mark the frame of the cluster. Pulled one corner out at a time. Once it is out you will see that it is just held in place with a with pressure clips. I'd disconnect the battery (access in footwell of passenger rear seat) and then disconnect the two electrical connectors on the cluster and pull the whole cluster out. Bulb replacement is easy. Once you've done it once you'll be able to remove the cluster in two minutes. You pull the cluster at the point were the mahogony trim meets the cluster...small access area.
