ecm chips pluses and minus?
Does anyone have a good feel for reprogramming the ECM and what are the real world gains and losses of doing so? I know running a higher grade of gas allows a more agressive spark advance. What about real gains and is there also a loss of mileage by enrighening the air fuel mix? Any stories on which companies supply the best upgrades as far as power gains and what can be expected. Prices I have seen range from $100.00 to 3000.00.

On
a 320 leave your chip alone,enriching the fuel means you need to be drawing in more air,the only way you are drawing in more air is increasing intake valve size,piston bore,stroke, changing cams,or a power adder ie. turbo or supercharger.More fuel without the demand for more air throws the o2 sensors into a frenzy tripping check engine light and eventually frying the o2 sensors.
Mod the suspension,remove the resonator,get lighter rims with wider meats.

I checked the other sites too and found Brabus at 1995 and the same for Renntech. There is one in the Boston area for 438.00. I also found Super chips and Jet Chips. Anybody else want to weigh in? I know some of you are claiming in your decription to be running these chips. Can you give anyfeedback/ Thanks Oh Lord for the input. I understand that the input request for O2 is also remapped to compensate for the enrichened mix. Since the system seems to be relatively restriction low, has anybody seen any flow results, ie dyno specs with this? Thanks again for the input. I would have asked the AMG boys but they seem to be preoccuppied with who is running around with fake AMG badging and fearing it is hurting their rides somehow. I like this group better. A lot of good info is

I took my car in to the MB dealer for the yearly state inspection and asked the parts guy about this. I figured he'd give me a standard reply of "not recommended", but what I got was:
"Can't be done, and don't do it. The way the ecu is programmed blah blah blah, the emissions blah blah blah...you can't do it."
I must admit, the guy sounded like he knew what he was talking about (I sure don't!) and now I have doubts about whether this can cause more harm than good.
I'm staying away from it.
