Rearview mirror - anemic amber light?
We have a 2002 E320 'sport' model.
The owners guide has nothing about this anemic amber light coming from the bottom of the interior rear view mirror.
I've read a post or two here about a red light coming from the rview mirror. Our rear view mirror has a tiny amber light that shines out, now, its not enough light to actually light up the center console and its there every time the exterior lights are turned on (all possible - parking, brights, park-left and park-right).
What is the purpose of this anemic amber light?

As for it's actual purpose, it's probably just cosmetic mood lighting. It does light up the center console a little bit. But I use it every now and then to read directions while driving at night vs. turning on the bright dome lights. I just hold my map underneath the light and I can read clearly. That's what I use it for.

thomasp,
I assume you've also noticed the somewhat anemic lights in the interior footwells?!! I don't really want anybody looking at my feet, but those lights are a little dim as well.

Its funny whenever I turn on the dome lights with passengers in the car they freak out, "I'm going blind, turn it off" At least I got use to the strong dome lights
