Light alloy/aluminum rims - high gloss polish

Hi, I need some help, and since there are users with a lot of talent and knowledge here I though, why not ask you...?

I have some sets of original mercedes light alloy rims with bad paint condition. I was thinking of repainting one for winter use and high gloss polish another set for summer use.

So, can anyone point me in the right direction on how to do this? I want an almost chrome looking surface. The backside will be painted black I think. Should I paint the polished surface (2 comp clear coat) or just maintain the polish with wax now and then?

polishing wheels is easy as hell its just time consuming. Just maintan the surface, my buddies just knock the brake dust off every couple of days and shine em up real good on the weekends for the weekly car meets.

I researched on the internet for a few days and used my dads old phone dial style 944 turbo wheels. Once i had two days off I did all of the paint knock off with a air grinder with a cheap polish prep kit i got for 24 usd. Then i bought some good stuff and did the final sanding by hand and they turned out mirrorshine but it was many hours of work.

Just research on the web and buy the appropriate stuff. Youll really appreciate your own work.

so basically I just remove the old paint, sand them with for example 400-600-1200 papers and then polish with autosol metal polish for example?

ok. How do I maintain the high gloss finish then? can I seal it with carnauba wax or do I just take a light polish with autosol (or whatever I choose to use) now and then?

Thank you for your answers max. If I get this right these wheels will be kicking!

ok, but I don't think I can get that stuff over here in norway. I'll buy autosol and seal it with carnauba I think...
