Glow plug exchange
Please could somebody give me an advice how to exchange glow plugs in E300 TD? I don't know how to disasseble intake manifold. I would like to use glow plugs from NGK company but I don't know which one should I use because for E300 TD (1998) there are DP-16 Y925J and DP-30 Y930U. Please can you help me?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Mike,
Changing my glowplugs was actually the first DIY project I did with my car. Its time consuming for a newbie, and will take you about a full day. I would recommend searching the www.mercedesshop.com website.

Good luck.

AND search that other forum for "606 + siezed and/or broken GPs" TOO!!!!! You'll get a days worth of reading and all of it is worth your effort.
I'd recommend BERU plugs; they were OEM on your car when new and have served me well. They have a larger head for the socket grab hold of than Bosch does. Yes, they are more expensive but after reading the other forum you will get a sense that doing this job is not without risk and the goal is to do it as infrequelntly as possible......do not reinstall w/o reaming the carbon also.
Save the NGK's for your next ricer......
Above ALL else, proceed slowly AND gently. Force nothing. Berus snap at approx 80NM's (head twists off) per anothers failure analysis. Use a torque wrench and be cautious when approching that limit. I believe there is much merit to using an air impact wrench on 20NM setting and giving each a good rat-ta-tat-tat before EVER putting a socket on them. BERU makes a high temp grease they recommend rather than anti-sieze when reinstalling. Googles your friend, search and you'll find it.

I just realised your's is an AMG diesel which we never got in the USA.
What mods did AMG provide?
Remember to waste a can of penetrating oil before attempting to loosen the GP's. Spray once a day for a few days in advance of doing the job.
After you remove the intake manifold, start the engine and get it warmed up. It will sometimes create a code but can be erased later. The alum head expands much faster then the steel GP does whihc can help breaking them free. If you get a tight one, some folks have had good luck heating the head and then using a "freeze" spray product to shrink the GP quickly too. Downside is cold metal is brittle metal.
